opposite of black helicopter conspiracy thinking
yeah the original context I encountered the phrase was an essay comparing french public delusions vs american public delusions, where in america you have people believing outlandish improbable theories about the government conspiring against them individually (via the black helicopters), french people tend to be equally deluded about the government solving problems in a way that goes far beyond what any government is capable of.
(I don’t know if this is actually true but the phrase stuck with me)
(also was the origin of the name of one of the songs in the ziggurat ost)

Is there a more cretinous bunch of tasteless hacks anywhere in the industry? An entire company of moviebobs. In a way it’s almost romantic that they all found each other
I wonder which is going to be worse, the Silent Hill 2 remake or the Silent Hill 2 movie.
Looks like the director of the first SH movie is the writer this time around, instead of the Pulp Fiction guy.
New Silent Hill Movie May Be in the Works - IGN
The things they say in this video don’t make me hopeful.
I played the short message. it’s really bad, but also for the most part bad in an interesting way. and the monster design/otherworld sequences really nail classic, psx-era silent hill atmosphere and art direction while feeling fresh and new. the sequences themselves are really bad, but still manage to be scary despite how bad the storytelling is. the lead scenario writer is a dude with barely any game writing to his credit; all he’s done that I can find is some side content for the when they cry series, which among other things makes me think this game is at least tied to silent hill f.
the writing is bad but it’s bad in a way that makes sense when you consider the visual novel background. like it’s just aggressively overwrought, there’s SO much unnecessary in-game text, not just written all over the walls and shit but also in the form of the protagonist constantly over-narrating everything. there are these kind of fascinatingly bad FMV sequences that are profoundly amateurish, like it honestly reminds me of 90’s PC adventure games that used live actors and shit. it’s easily the most unintentionally campy game I’ve played in a very, very long time, and the fact that it’s so painfully earnest makes it hard for me to hate it despite how bad it all is. the apparent inexperience of the scenario writer makes some of this make sense.
I think it’s worth playing just keep your expectations very low. the good stuff is so good that I still feel some hope about f, but I really hope they bring on a better studio or team to handle actual game design. I still worry that f will have similar issues with just too much on-the-nose expository text, but I know the when they cry dude is well-respected and hopefully has a better sense of how to translate his methods to a format that generally does better with less text. we’ll see… even if it’s bad I still feel like it will be worth playing in the same way this is.
A former acquaintance wrote of this game “I guarantee whomever reading this has written something for an English class they’d never publish which is better than this.” I never double checked but I don’t think they cared for it.
How did I not put together Silent Hill Origins and Shattered Memories were both directed by Sam Barlow?
That’s why they are both worth playing, unlike the other non-numbered ones. Shattered Memories in particular has some interesting depth to its story (that’s easy to miss, I think).
Legendary chiptune composer 4mat also worked on both games in the sound department.
They should have gotten Stephen Platt to redesign all the characters for the remake.
Imagine a super buff pyramid head
silent goddamn hill 2 isn’t even out and they’re trying to hype up a ps3?
I had that issue, I think I got that magazine from around 1998 to 2002
I was there for the first couple issues during the ps1 era but as a late ps2 adopter I missed this one. Always dug how they got comic people to do the covers (and the bonus memory card and lid stickers). OPM had the all important demo discs but this felt like a better magazine.
