My RPS feature came out today, about Aussie indie game studio Nonsense Machine.
Was a bit tricky to wrangle the disparate topics into a coherent narrative, but got there in the end.

Damn I need to play these games
oh their games are so good!!! wourme sent me (I think) the three pipe smoking on a boat one and I got hooked. canât remember the name but I posted it in the screenshot thread cuz I was blown away. thanks for the write up!!!
in my âhead canonâ the steam greenlight campaign for dweedos Ticket was what got valve to give up on doing any sort of moderation on submissions and just turned it into the paywall entry
Yeah Cape Hideous blew me away - it was that game made me think I have to write about this.
RPS rarely commission freelancers to review a single indie game, unless itâs something time-consuming like an MMO which their staff donât have time for. That lead to the idea of combining multiple Nonsense Machine games into a single topic - a strategy Iâd recommend for anyone who wants to pitch to them.
For another take on Cape Hideous, Blake Andrewsâ in The Unearthed Treasure Room is really cool if you havenât watched it.
oh wait i did watch this! i should probably rewatch though as i never pay enough attention to stuff on my computer
finally actually read your article. unironic âi feel like raymanâ spotted. those lyrics rule
also YES everything you wrote about cape hideous is how i feel!! especially the consistently inconsistent art style! that fucking intro quote!!! ooo weee it feels great to read an article this informative about something i really like thanks again for real this time
Glad you dug it! ![]()
Thought Iâd share: RPS are looking for freelance pitches for âmore granular and specific reporting and investigative criticism that broaches a new topic or addresses a gap in knowledge regarding something familiar.â Women and non-binary writers specifically encouraged. Pays ÂŁ300-400.
Quick-fire examples Edwin has given for what would fit the category:
This is the full post. Ideas can be sent to Edwinâs email.
god if only iâd saved any of the hound/handler porn thatâs been all over my feeds the last year or two, i could probably get away with never actually having played ac6
Haha! Iâm sure there are other games that could fit the billâŚ
Found a blog thing I like (I can access it on my phone, doing markup is easy enough, so itâs not too bad) and have brewed up a new thing.
But anyway the meat of my writing is in this post, for a sorta year-end wrap-up about the nerdy shit Iâm into. Iâm not really happy with it, could use five or six editing passes, but it got me to write, so I guess thatâs something.
read and enjoyed! Got me to finally actually for real this time install Control to play over the holidays
year end thoughts, sort of
ah i love that album and cover this is fantastic. im always like âtheres no room for me in there, where would i even standâ
what i find funny about The Jamâs âUndergroundâ is in the US that kind pop/punk music never was particularly mainstream here, at least for a decade and a half until grunge/Green Day etc⌠so anyone who had heard of The Jam back then here were way more likely to just take it at face value as a sincere statement. like the irony of it being a #1 hit would be missing. maybe like The Replacements are probably the closest thing to the US had to a version of a band like The Jam, but failing at being any kind of mainstream success is so built into their existence.
also i have a whole dumb theory about 1980/2016 being parallel cultural moments in a lot of ways.
I only wrote a small part of this but there are 7 other micro GOTY posts that other folks wrote. I think itâs pretty fucking cool!!
yeah, momo kicks fucking ass
I wrote an essay explaining to gaming normies and youngins what theyâre getting into when they buy a retro console.
