You have to discard every deck when you get them. I saw a tool tip about it. Once you have discarded every deck, arcade mode is activated.
Man, I got to the fifth boss on a run and almost had it. This game is so good, damn.
I’ve beaten it on experience once, and now I’m trying the next one up and it’s definitely harder but doesn’t feel undoable. I’ve made it to the third stage there.
the other ships are really cool too - the gimmicks are pretty game changing and the gradius power up order switches between the ships. I am really a sucker for gradius power up systems.
ok yeah the key to classic is not only skipping greens, it’s letting the yellows sit for as long as possible so you can continually chain them together to get your strike multiplier up to 10x for a while.
i also noticed you get 1x multiplier from not having a shield, so immediately losing your shield at the start is pretty optimal until it gets to the point where you have too much risk, then you get the green (which you want to pick up anyway at some point, for the speed + missiles).
my long chains usually involve greens too, so it’s not always right to skip them if you can continue a big combo with a 10x strike multiplier.
this is an “S” score – it looks like “S+” is at a million, so not too far off
Finally beat campaign mode. This game still rules.
I love this game but put it down because I was really struggling with the “normal” difficulty campaign. I got sucked into the side games for a while and at one point had top ten in two of them on steam. I wonder how I’m doing now….
Well, I fell out of Gates to 15th but I still am there in 9th in Crash, dang! (I think I was like, 3/5 in Crash but I was 8/9 in Gates so this kinda checks out)
Then I tried a campaign and couldn’t make it past the first boss, man, I gotta relearn this now
