i havent kept up with pokemon games and for a moment i thought this was a pokemon that looks like a backpack
Napsax is what Snorlax evolves from
Off we go to PC-98 Xanadu Revival portrait land!

First, here is the King who just asks you for your name:

Next up is the people you buy your stats from, with notable that the last one is Magical Resistance, because sure, why not.

This next one is a hidden shopkeeper who is only at the beginning of the game, and you have to do some warp tile weirdness to get to her. Itās pretty great that before you even get to the first dungeon, there is some arcane videogame bullshit to solve.

And now here are the shopkeepers from inside the dungeon:

Imagine what it must be like to be a shopkeeper inside a dungeon.

I already did
Man some nice pixels in there.
I keep playing this game I am intentionally not naming and I canāt tell if all the art is AI or just bad >_>
This is the one that got me going āgotta be AIā but itās right near the end of the game and they coulda just gotten lazy :\
i couldnāt see the issue to start with, but after a bit i noticed the scan lines in the top right which donāt extend over the whole picture. i still canāt tell if itās ai or not, why did you think it was ai?
I think this is AI art as well. beyond just having the vibe, there are a few small things:
- the scan lines disappearing, as @nettle said
- look how his left grabber just melts on one side
- these bolts, despite being right next to each other, have completely different shading. also who would draw bolts that are just slightly different sizes next to each other
AI art always has this āintention freeā vibe. the lack of actual decision making is immediately obvious once you start noticing it, but itās getting much harder to call out specific details.
So since I had the PC 98 emulator open, I thought I would grab some more screenshots. Itās hard to get them for anything too action intensive, as there is no screenshot button shortcut, and the emulator does not pause for you accessing the menu, but that is OK.
Rude Breaker
(Compile, on Disc Station 10) Since it makes the font it uses easy to grab from the high score screen:![]()

Would have gotten more of this one, but the non-pausing is rough for an STG.
Dead of the Brain

More Dead of the Brain. This game is super pretty. Also kinda just a dumb zombie visual novel, except the people in it know what zombies are, which is alright. I did crop the screens down when the interface/caption wasnāt worth noting, but otherwise these are unchanged.
CW: Some PC-98 style gore. Nothing too terrible for zombie stuff, but yeah, itās there.

I just Vyvansed my way through this game this afternoon and there is so much to see. I should warn you, this is a PC-98 game, so there is some nudity, which I will try to spoiler tag. Thankfully nothing horrendously objectionable (good lord, the PC-98 has some Problematic Games), but yeah.

Ok so then things go some PLACES

(This one is actually two screenshots stitched together, but they were obviously one big drawing)

Vibes, mostly. This one it was all the random stuff tossed around that feels very⦠inconsistent? The shapes on everything and designs donāt really fit together, but again it could just be this is a late-game drawing and the person just filled it up quickly just to get it finished/done.
Like in this one where they are playing not-DnD and drinking wine (donāt ask, I have no good answers) I kept looking at the glasses and wondering why in the world are they there andā¦
ā¦you know looking at the images side by side those robot drawings are more different than they should be, right?
and i think they may have been smart and composited some stuff in - those little guys on the table are so cute and look like they were added later, to me. possibly even the hologram guy. but yeah i get the AI vibe from this too
like look at how the little guys are beautifully transparent, but then the hologram guy is not properly transparent at all. like he was drawn as part of a flat picture rather than added as a layer. iām actually more convinced the hologram guy is AI now lmao
Iām tempted to grab all the cutscene art now and see how consistent the models are (these pop up after every 5 to 10 puzzle stages, the game itself looks very different) but given how small the game is feels too much like punching down.
Also I realize one could technically check my recent played list of Steam and put 2 and 2 together so⦠please donāt?
the second image has the same scan line thing as the first, so i think itās a filter applied over the image by the gamesoft, iām not sure why.
i think maybe itās not ai, but just the result of art that hasnāt be refined (perhaps due to time or budget constraints). actually i feel like some of the debris in the first image is wonky enough that ai wouldnāt make it like that, but probably you can prompt it back into that style.
