Digimon’s always been that kinda franchise
at least hes buckled up
I’ve never played that game and know relatively little about it, but of course I’ve heard the English translation of that line and always thought it was kind of strange. Seeing it in the original and poking around a bit, I realize, given the distinctive phrasing, she’s probably referencing the (honestly rather misogynistic) expression 「女は弱し、されど母は強し」 (i.e. “Though a woman is weak, a mother is strong,” for anyone reading this who needs) which I haven’t heard before. On this, the Daijisen gives the explication 「女性は母親になると、子供を守るために強い力を発揮するものだ。」 (i.e. “Once a woman has entered motherhood, she will display great power to protect her children.”) So, I realize maybe she’s actually saying something more akin to “I got you” than just “moms are tough” in some vague general sense. ![]()
