Missile Dancer
M.U.S.H.A. on the Sega Genesis?
Not because it is easy enough for people who are bad at shmups but because the art design is so endearing that its fun to play regardless of skill level.
The stage 1 music is amazing. It will rock the socks off of any gamer, casual, shmup veteran, or of any other gamer ilk. All will have no socks.
The game title has many of the same letters as âSHMUPâ,hence it is good practice for pronouncin the name of the genre.
tumiki fighters! kenta cho is really a genius for accessible shmups imo, the âdowned ships stick to youâ mechanic is hilarious and means you can cling to life as long as you can keep collecting junk
Iâm gonna recommend Aqua Kitty. Itâs got an easy mode and conditions for medals on stages so if you are just tolerable you can still get pretty far. Itâs also very nice to look at with lots of sunsets and robot fish, and itâs by the peopple who used to run the Shoot The Core database of shmups for PC and they have a good handle on various types of shooters
Warning forever
batsugun special for sure. mushihime sama 1.5 original. darius gaiden because you can use autofire and take the easiest route after every stage, where else you gettin that soundtrack anyway.
I remember getting far (maybe seeing the credits?) in Parodius and Axelay on SNES, and R-Type Delta on PS1. Sin & Punishment also didnât seem as punishing as the sequel.
I never beat a Starfox, but I think I saw Andross once.
Really good suggestions so far!
The Aleste series is pretty forgiving and in the same âmanic shootingâ vein as the Star Soldier games. Picking up any item grants you a split-second of invincibility and getting to the higher weapon power levels grants you shields, so you can get away with some pretty sloppy play. The M2 compilation that released for Switch a while back (Aleste Collection, JP only) is fantastic and worth picking up.
For something more recent, I highly recommend checking out HEYâs works: Mecha Ritz STEEL RONDO and Dezatopia. They are very transparent mechanically, the difficulty is widely adjustable and they are a joy to play. Out of the two Mecha Ritz is probably more approachable as a âtraditionalâ vertical shooter, but do not sleep on Deza! It has a feel and flow to it all its own, and tons of personality. Thereâs nothing quite like it.
love this game, itâs easy but interesting, lots of great gimmicks. I recommend this game to basically everyone.
Espgaludaâs maybe the easiest Cave shootâemâer, the slowdown mechanic is satisfying, gives players a more satisfying out than bombing, probably an easier introduction to scoring than anything outside of Ikaruga
I feel like Princess Remedy fits the bill also
MUSHA and Super Aleste are great intros on their respective systems, with the caveat that they are Compile games so stage length is higher than many and 1ups are more common than most.
Cotton 100% is probably the easiest Cotton to recommend, though I like Reboot a lot as well, though it can visually be Too Much for people.
Iâve had this in my backlog for years and I had no idea it was a shmup
I guess itâs arguably run and gun but Iâd say it shares some shmuppy energy. Also you can marry any NPC you want in one of em.
Hell⌠Yes
I beat this game on my first go. I think there are multiple endings, maybe, so thereâs probably more to see, but it was a wild ride at least.
This one just entered Early Access but is basically done! Very laid-back one-button game modelled after MSX scrolling shooters. Unbelieveably charming, though the aesthetics and busy screen might be too much for some.
While I think everyone has good suggestions I think the truth is more just find the have that speaks to you and dig in?
Ohhh I played this on my phone ages agoâŚneat
i keep seeing this on twitter and i think the game looks really up my alley
but you are correct; i really wish there was an option to put more clothing on the girl child. kind of makes me long for the days of 80s censorship lol
