I’m a dork with a terrible sense of humor, but a lot of the joke dialogue options in this game really get me
I wish I could rain down sick burns on demons during negotiation without causing them to leave
Also, you should get a bonus to guts for picking the sickest burn on a teacher when they quiz you in class.
There was a question about Japan’s most badass thief and your name pops up as an answer but you don’t get anything for picking it.
I assume the actual answer is nijuu mensou or something? or do they mean real people
So Dungeon 2 he scams artsnobs out of their money and ???
Like there are accusations that he plagarizes but no real example and yusuke isn’t 100% against the idea?
This is the weakest villian I’ve seen in a P game.
Man this is the first Persona game to really skeve me out where we are only care about Ann’s exploitation by when it will benefit the plot. Like the first dungeon is all about how she had the option to fight back or say no but didn’t know she could. Then the 2nd dungeon just flips it and says no now your friends are exploiting you and it is now just and right to do so. But like LOL she doesnt want to!!! Hilarious.
It’s the worst part of the game so far, I hope they pick it back up and do something with it
Did you finish the second dungeon yet?
Well, that’s depressing to hear about Ann.
Dialogue options in Persona games have always been mostly insignificant except for the Big Choices, but I’m surprised at how samey so many of them here are. Many that are just choices between “uh huh” and “yeah.” Maybe this was more prevalent in earlier games than I remember though.
One of the worst instances of this is when Ann is looking for a codename and all the dialogue options for the PC are some variation on “Oh la la sexy catgirl <3” Like, Ryuji is gonna be a bit of a creep and maybe I as the player do wanna join in on his C-grade anime “comedy” antics, but can I maybe choose to roleplay the PC as someone who’s not going to objectify this sexually harrassed teenager to her protest?
Anyway, other than this dumb stuf, I’m pretty well digging this. The new directions for dungeon exploration and the press-turn system are pretty clever. The reintroduction of demon conversation to the series is welcome. Kaneko’s designs look fantastic in this HD 3D environment.
The beginning of the Temperance s-link is really awful too for obvious reasons
Anyway don’t forget to
Right from the start Temperance has felt much more tragic to me
Though I knew who it is was going to be ahead of time so maybe I was willing to forgive it to see where it went
A
ann directly confronts ryuji about leering at her cleavage, and his response is literally "shuddup! it was a great view!"
then he appeals to the other boys with “am i right fellas”
B
Is there a “fuck off” option
A
you don’t get to say anything
because the main character is also partaking in the act during the cutscene
so the implication is that the player approves of it
B
I really hate that they do this kind of thing. Oh, it’s your avatar, that’s why he’s silent. Look, you can choose some dialogue options.
But you never get any meaningful choice or the ability to disagree with anyone
You just get railroaded into a predetermined character in a predetermined story
And it’s all the worse for it
At best it’s just preventing an actual, fleshed out character from being the protagonist; at worst is actively diminishing the “avatar” aspect and assuming things of the player
C
it’s like the writers thought people like kamoshida are bad purely because they’re adults with power, and not also because of the sexual abuse and rape itself
Everything I’m hearing about the unsavory character interactions in this game just makes me wonder how people can spend 100+ hours with this thing
The dungeons must be really good
The dungeons are really good in this but the game has grossed me out from the very beginning and so I think I’m done.
I can imagine getting too skeeved out (Ann is a big problem, and I hate being implicated in the passive masculine bullshit that keeps happening) to stay with it at a certain point, but it hasn’t happened quite yet. I’m not sure how much excellent dungeon/battle design and hanging around Shibuya will outweigh dumb sexist bullshit for me in the long run.
It’s safe to say I am far less into this game narratively than I was at this point with P3 and P4.
I am feeling pretty certain that of P3, P4, and P5’s basic dungeon narrative-thematic conceit, the “stealing a corrupt person’s twisted heart/desires” is possibly the dumbest, at least on its face.
We all knew, going in Persona 5, that, in any given story based 100 hours japanese RPG, we were eventually going to find something really questionnable ( including a scene in which the boys spy on the naked girls)
Oh, something else I’ve noticed that made me roll my eyes:
Each of the main boss is related to one of the seven deadly sins
The third boss is a mafia king who blackmails the team for $$$, his palace is a giant bank and he sees people as walking ATMs
During the fight you can throw expensive items at him so he loses turns grabbing them
Guess what his sin is, among Lust, Gluttony, GREED, Wrath, Pride, Envy, Sloth
it’s actually gluttony because he’s fat
yeah, unfortunately it seems like the Persona team will always have some problematic shit in their games. it stands out to me and bothers me, because they’ll have plotlines like “being a woman in a male-dominated work environment/society is really shitty,” but they can’t break away from “gay people are comic relief” or the examples mentioned previously.
i really don’t get it. my assumption is it has to do with their writing process. are their multiple writers on these games? the dissonance is just confusing.
anyway, i think i’m getting near the end of this game. i’ve reached the second Safe Room in Nijima’s Casino. i can’t tell if the song is catchy or dumb or both. probably both. i wonder how much is left, though?
the gameplay and the presentation’s charm hasn’t worn off on me yet and i’m still having a good time playing. out of all of the next-gen Persona games, this one is definitely my favorite.
… that website is incredibly hard to read
