シン・[s]ゴジラ[/s]Persona 5 (not) superplay thread

i really enjoyed doing margaret’s requests without a guide in persona 4, but i ended up getting so good at fusing personas that it made the challenge in these games entirely trivial. i didn’t have much trouble doing the ones in this game, especially with the electric chair, but they were still pretty fun.

i do miss turning to this series as the one jrpg with some sort of challenge.

Don’t hesitate picking hard mode if you want a fair challenge

I cleared the fourth palace.
I realize I’m in for the dungeons / battles / time management / mood / activities but the actual text bores me. Some conversations just seem to go on and on and I sometimes just skip them? I feel like it all could be told as effectively with less than half the words. The main storyline also stops being compelling and original pretty fast and falls back on tired Persona / Anime tropes.

Confidants are better but there are a lot I just see as just stepping stones I need to Efficiently Rank Up to become godlike. Good that the game made me feel as sociopathic as its main character I guess.

Music not changing much throughout seasons and day to day life is disappointing. Really adds a lot to the mood and staves off repetition.

Oh, yes Persona 5 should do the same.

Definitely having more fun hanging out with the adults instead of my fellow highschoolers

6/13 spoilers: I knew it all along thet eventually Ryuji and his big mouth would get everyone fucked. Goddamnit.

yeah, this was the first persona i managed to finish
and probably the first videogame i’ve played where ui design was the most compelling aspect

i’d be interested in the ng+ exclusive boss but… levels don’t carry over

Guess what song the OP’s music queues line up with.

Do Mementos ever stop being hilariously easy? Feels like whenever I go in there, whatever’s at the deepest level I can access is half the level my characters are…

I think the last enemy I’ve encountered on the last floor of Mementos was a monster I’ve stopped seeing 15 hours earlier, so

At least the banter is good

nope

i started ng+ to fight the optional superboss but with levels not carrying over i’m not sure i can be bothered going through the entire game again even with fast forward and endgame personas
but i also miss gorging myself on this game most evenings
maybe i should try and play the previous games again
or strange journey

(Help how do I embed twitter links)

it might be hardcoded to only work with www.twitter rather than mobile site, but it should be automatic after pasting the link + a linebreak

i’m only just ab to start the 3rd palace and as much as i like this game, i’m finding the pacing and set up tedious compared to stuff like p3. i’m trying not to compare it to anything else but i’m not really sucked in like i expected to be.

i like the ui, not crazy about the hilarious mispronounciation of names in the dub, and i got attatched to ryuji being likeable until i got to the part with the maid service and got p irritated.

at least i still have the questionable doctor visits to look forward to.

Isn’t Persona 5 the first time the Shin Megami Tensei ignored a demon redesign?

The four archangels are back to their classic look after the disasterous SMT4 redesigns.

(Like every year I spend one hour on the Megaten wiki looking at random demons and the evolution of their designs theoughout the series)

Abandoning this. I’m in the 6th palace, and my enjoyment has evaporated. There’s not enough novelty left in the game systems and I’m not especially attached to any of the characters. I never give a flying fuck about the overarching plotlines. I think I’ve just changed too much to have the patience for a game of this length anymore.

When the DS games rolled in and became the new assets base for the series following games a lot of designs got thrown to the wayside- Soul Hackers’s Odin and Pixie + Nocturne’s Thor both easily come to mind. Devil Survivor in particular didn’t really care about style clashes, ignoring Soul Hacker’s Cerebus despite that being the obvious actually-three-headed design and throwing out the Soul Hackers Titania despite the older art and ignoring Nocturne’s Nekomata despite that design actually having pants.

4 Apocalypse clearly tried to shy away from the guest designs anyway, whether in losing the capability to keep re-using those assets or in acknowledging criticisms about the majority of them being rather lacking- Masakado’s and the archangels both have limited head / silhouette appearances despite their heavy plot presence in IV.

You’re absolutely right! The Persona 2 redesigns have also been largely ignored.

SMT seems largely schizophrenic about Titania / Oberon, it goes:
SMT1/2: green dress Titania
Devil summoner: mask Titania
Nocturne: green dress
SMT4: mask
Persona 5: green dress

Persona 5 also reuses Nocturne’s Thor.

I guess the P5 team probably took the 3D models from the PS2 SMT games, then added a lot of polygons

And the SMT4 team didn’t want to reuse the super old green dress Titania 2D art or draw a new one, so they took the one from Devil Summoner

Jesus Christ I was right
to be fair, the game is incredibly bad at hiding it, especially when it wants to do some foreshadowing

my favorite part are all those clumsy, dreamlike transitions that kick in whenever a scene that features him ends, totally not suspicious

Yeah. And his confidant bonuses are proof he’s not going to stay in your party too

Still, I suspected him right from his very first scene in the anime intro, I hadn’t seen him again in the game when I posted. He had that suspicious anime look from the get-go
