it’s a big thing in ireland and scotland, i’m most familiar with the former but on a trip to inverness i remember coming across a whole stack of self-released cds that all proudly advertised being recorded abroad, among them flamZe and simon peters
I don’t know much about St. Vincent other than my mom liked that record with David Byrne (and I think she might be in the dog house at the moment with a lot of folks) but I happened across this a couple weeks back and was wondering how her audiences took this
My favorite version will always be that weird take on that Blast First comp that cuts back and forth between an interview and the intro riff.
she has some weirdly good covers - like her cover of The Pop Group’s “She Is Beyond Good And Evil” which is just a total left field pull but kind of awesome. tho it doesn’t really seem to carry over to her own work most of the time. maybe she’s just a Berklee student at heart in that she can only channel that stuff when interpreting other people’s work, lol.
it really really sucks that he was struck down right during his redemption arc after i regained a lot of respect for him. i can’t believe it really. it doesn’t feel right to not have him as a guy who’s always around.
god “farewell transmission” is one of the GOAT songs ever
they recorded it in ONE DAY. one big ass room full of people catching lightning in a bottle. Albini literally opened and closed the studio door at points to futz with the dynamics. It sounds perfect
