another reason why the magnetic drifts are great in RR1 specifically is because you can do literal 360s around corners as a swag move. in revolution the new drift model made it a little “less magnetic” so you couldn’t do this anymore. BOO!
One of the few cheevos to ever make me audibly laugh was getting one for doing this in 6.
I think I played the 60fps bonus disc more than R4. The first game is still such a good time.
i really like rage racer, i had never given it much of a chance before but it might be my favorite now. the music is not quite as mental as the first two PSX games*, but it is still pretty great nonetheless
*legendary example:
i keep meaning to post about RR music here then get distracted listening to Disco Ball
i will say ridge racer music YT comments are great for being the intersection of incoherent gamer nonsense and DiscoComments material. dudes waxing nostalgic about chilling with their bros and a jogcon, its 1999 again and the only thing that matters is doing sick drifts to “move me”
rage racer is a really nice compromise between the brilliant but very straightforward RR and revolution and the more complicated and furnished R4. for me, it is probably the sweet spot (i need to give V more of a chance as well)
Might have to buy a negcon now and get my Rage on. Do they work with Mednafen?
I’ve been trying to find a USB adapter that definitely works satisfactorily with a NeGcon, so, if you know of one I’d love to know also!
NegCon sounds like a PUA convention.
isn’t the g pronounced like a j, like in the japanese word neji?
yes, it is pronounced like ne-‘G’-con as far as i know
this is a good review of rage racer: Rage Racer (PS) review | PlayStation
Also the absence of a split-screen two-player mode or even a link-up option is something of a disappointment, given that Ridge Racer Revolution at least included the latter.
…i forgot that RRR has system-link capability for one-on-one multiplayer racing. we need to try this at an sbcon somehow…
really weird how the ridge racer 2/ridge racer revolution version of Rare Hero just straight up has Pac-Man music in it, except not, because it is reconciled by the secret song in R4.
i always forget how hard these games get lol
i am working on class 2 g.p. in rage racer, the third track is kicking my ass and i don’t have enough credits to buy a new car or tune up my lizard yet so i gotta keep grinding. iirc class 3 starts getting pretty brutal (thinking back, i realize now that i have actually played rage racer quite a bit on the japanese copy i got back in 2017 - i’m playing the localized version this time)
flashing back to trying to beat the secret cars in revolution (i can be ur devil kid or ur white angle), holy shit these games are fucking hard lol
