Quantum Ungulations (Outer Wilds)

I find the other world in this DLC challenging, and I need some tips.

I know where to obtain one of those code panels, I saw a Stranger carrying one down below the well after another stranger blew out the lights, thus disabling the bell-ringing machine. But I have no idea how to get to the position to disable that.

This is actually the only lead on what I think is four required codes? Also in the other world, the gorge area I have gone through the process to unlock the lift there, but found nothing else to do or discover in that whole place?

And just one other thing maybe not related, but there is also the church-like building in the normal world, in the gorge, the one with the bridge totally blown out, and you have to go through a ghost matter cave to get to I have no leads on getting the code to use with the pillar in that building either.

I can’t remember if this is relevant, but there’s a building located just to the right as you face the entrance to the ghost matter tunnel. Have you thoroughly explored that building yet? I think there may be a slide reel you can get inside? If this is what I think it is, you’ll probably want to pursue this before proceeding with other avenues of exploration.

There’s more to explore here

For the well, explore the different houses in Starlit Cove more thoroughly. There is a part of it you likely haven’t found.

For the gorge, you may have explored everything that you can based on what you know (though it’s hard for me to say how much you know). You need more information from elsewhere to progress in that region.

You likely don’t have enough information to advance in that church building surrounded by ghost matter.

If you want a more specific hint, since I think there’s a central discovery you’re missing:

Have you thoroughly explored that parts of Starlit Cove that aren’t the houses? You may have noticed that the “tombs” you use to enter the other world are replicated pretty much exactly to the starship counterparts.

Gonna investigate these leads later tonight. Ty both.

finally started this game! definitely feeling the PS4 chug a bit, but yeah wow what a compelling game loop

seems like taking photos with the scout in quick succession has a 50% chance of crashing the game. don’t love this

Love this person’s cute, enthusiastic voice.

could i press upon you babes for a cryptic hint or two as to what “more to explore” there is with the gravity cannons beyond recalling the shuttles? i’ve tried firing them off again, while inside and outside them, but unless i’m missing something that’s just taking a random potshot

otherwise i think i’ve about done everything up to the Tower of Quantum Knowledge and subsequently visiting the quantum moon or visiting the Sun Station or properly exploring the Vessel (though apparently the Nomai Grave has more to explore too? how!!)

this game rips guys. i especially love how fun properly spoilered posts look

ok ok one more thing, i keep trying to fly between the cacti in the Sun warp tower to get to the warp but it’s so difficult i’m not sure it’s possible… am i barking up the wrong tree here? can’t think of any other options rn

ok so i accidentally figured out how to enter the Tower of Quantum Knowledge but i had hardly any time to explore before supernova and i couldn’t put scrolls down in zero g… so i thought i’d be really clever and fly my ship up there instead. of course the pillars weren’t widely spaced enough to allow that, so i wedged the ship in as best i could and figured i at least had a safe place to while away the time before the tower fell into the black hole. but then when the time came my ship got totally crushed or concussed so hard it killed me. i’m not cleverer than this game after all…

Great efforts! Regarding the Tower on Brittle Hollow: you’re certainly not alone in trying to finagle your way up there, and I’ve seen some folks pull off some pretty amazing stunts to do so, but there are much more reliable ways of getting where you’re trying to go. Most important recommendation I can make here is: don’t panic. You may not have had very much time when you got in successfully, but you don’t actually need that much time—there are as many receptacles in the area as there are objects to insert. The lack of gravity is inconvenient for fine control, but you don’t need to set anything down to finish the area unless you bring something in with you. With smart positioning and preparation, you should have this pretty easily.

Regarding the gravity cannon: the “something more” text can actually indicate that there’s something to find in the vicinity of the shuttle before you recall it to the cannon. Kind of unintuitive how that’s documented, but I can’t think of a better alternative.

On the cactus-filled hallway: it’s possible to just fly with your jet-pack, but I never pulled it off. There’s an easier way to get through that you haven’t discovered yet.

oh bless you! yeah i accidentally spoiled myself on that last point so i’m gonna go do that like now. i also went and explored the Interloper ;_; so i’ve done that bit of the second point, though there’s also apparently more at the Brittle Hollow cannon and i don’t know why. thanks for the kind words on point 1! that’s good info, i was wondering if i’d have to jump into the white hole and then scramble for a scroll wall on-planet

also does the Interloper stuff have something to do with the expansion? that’s such a cliffhanger otherwise! i know the deep space satellite does because i got a DLC achievement for wrecking it lol

Regarding the Interloper: the location itself is pure base game, although obviously it has important lore concerning, uh, everything else touched by ghost matter in the Outer Wilds system, which may or may not be relevant to expansion content.

As for the second gravity cannon: the existence of at least two such locations should imply the existence of two shuttles. I think you haven’t proven the truth of this hypothesis yet, probably?

Eager to hear how your journeys continues! You’ve definitely identified a very small piece of expansion content. But as the computer says, there’s more to explore here.

no i HAVE though. that was like the first thing i did! guess i’ll do it again and see if i missed anything

Wait, I mean: go to the place it landed. Check that area, I think.

haha ok no i checked the computer again and i HAD apparently seen everything at the Brittle Hollow one. thank you for your patience though

the “oh shit. wait what? oh maybe… aha! oh hm. oh poor things” thought journey i had between visits to the Sun Station and Ash Twin Project was quite affecting. still don’t know who that third mask’s for though… maybe i’ll find out on the quantum moon

ohoho maybe i DID! big maybe though lol. like maybe Solanum’s just Schrönger’s Nomai. i think i exhausted all conversation with her, though i wanted to press her more on her hypothesis she wasn’t entirely alive — i tried to say “explain you” after she said that to press her on the topic but she didn’t offer anything new. did i miss something here?

hey ok so i can’t make anything happen in the Vessel at the moment, i’m guessing coz the warp core’s busted — however i think all i need to do there is move the big control sphere over to the hex panels, draw a simple hexagon three times to activate all the panels, and then move the big control sphere back to the other side to like… power the ship i guess?? and escape the supernova??? though i’ll have to bring the warp core from the Ash Twin Project naturally, which is giving me heavy nerves. but it’ll be so sad to give up on all my fellow Hearthians… and what am i doing with the coordinates to the Eye anyway?

oh WAIT A MINUTE i just got it. THAT’S why it showed me prominently the weird runes of the coordinates. coz that’s what you input into the bridge controls. huge. i guess i’m ready to enter the Eye and finish the game?? i hope i haven’t missed anything with Solanum though… also i hear there’s something to grab on Hollow’s Lantern so i might go check that out now that it’s had time to cool off, if there’s time before nova

i love how the tragedy that the system is just doomed also kind of explains why Brittle Hollow is just now collapsing completely

Regarding Solanum and possibly missing text: there are six stones and two slots in which to insert them. Completely ignoring the specifics of the stones, I count 5+4+3+2+1 or 15 possible combinations. Did you try all 15 combinations?

More generally, there were at least two mysteries in the game about which they provide clues but no answers, hoping instead players will deduce what’s going on from the context they’ve established, and I utterly failed to do so. At least one of those deductions blocks progress. If you think you’ve encountered something like this, I can tell you whether there’s an answer to be found somewhere or if you need to think through the situation some more.

You’re definitely making some major progress!

i did! idk it just feels like such a strange thread to end on. gonna go have another quick visit, ride out the nova and see what happens

re: your general guidance: i would love to hear what these two mysteries are because after running around and talking to all my friends i feel like i’ve got a pretty good handle on everything actually. could i ask you to spoiler-post what these mysteries are and i promise not to look until i’ve hit the ending tomorrow?

Sure.

  1. The progression-locking mystery is how to enter the Ash Twin Project. This used to be a lot harder to figure out, but they’ve added more clues and revised a bunch of them to make it more obvious. For the record: you need to stand on the warp platform with the broken roof at the same time that the Ember Twin is directly overhead, which means that the sand column is passing overhead at the same moment. So, you also need to use your jetpack to keep yourself pressed against the ground, rather than let the sand drag you too high away from the warp.

  2. A second mystery: what’s up with the third mask inside the Ash Twin Project? As you’ve identified, one belongs to you and one belongs to Gabbro, so if a third mask is illuminated, who does that belong to? The answer kind of makes sense, but it also kind of feels like it’s not playing fair: this mask doesn’t have a corresponding living being. Rather, this mask is connected to the statue inside the Orbital Probe Cannon. Each loop, the statue sends data about which coordinates were used to fire; the sun explodes, and the third mask sends the accumulated probe data 22 minutes into the past so that the Cannon can be sure to choose coordinates that have never been used during a previous loop, and the process repeats.

I’m pretty sure there are other points of ambiguity, but those are the only ones for which I specifically remember looking for answers. At least, the only ones that aren’t in the DLC…
