Projector gaming

How awesome it is in reality compared to the awesome sounding idea of metres of picture imersiveness?

How well are UIs handled, especially of PC-ass games?

@Felix i think this one’s for you

Here’s to me, Optoma and Bart

anyway I’m not too sensitive to input latency but that’s no worse than on comparable OLEDs, there are no meaningful downsides I could come up with in practice

How big a screen are you projecting onto? And what Optoma model are you using?

I’m interested in acoustically transparent screen so that the speakers come behind it. Not sure if that is doable in DIY fashion (due to costs) and to have it retractable.

UHD50, and I’m just using the wall

Upscaling from consoles to 4k, how noticeable it is blown up like that?

well, it’s a linear multiple of both 720 and 1080, and I’ve never seen 1080->4K on another device but I have seen lots of LCD scaling I can’t stand, and I would call this totally fine

Best use of projector gaming is for Nintendo multiplayer games that make things hard to see in split-screen or the zoom camera in Smash. I use a 100" silver ticket screen that was pretty easy to put together and tear down.

It is a little uncomfortable for first-person games where you can’t adjust the FOV - I played some of Destiny (1) on it and was immediately nauseated as if I did a barrel roll in VR.

Obviously controlling light is an issue, but that and the summer heat can both be overcome with the power of curtains and blinds.

oh yeah I don’t really play first person games on console when possible in the first place so I can’t speak to that
