and the bigger problem is that such a feature would be rarely used in any case unless it’s a self-explanatorily compelling experience proposition: asynchronous is infinitely more convenient and synchronous modes are not likely to even be tried to see how fun they are.

part of me thinks that I’m being too mechanics-focused and the synchronicity actually SHOULD occur in physical space as people see other people playing the game, but then I’m kind of left wondering what makes pokemon go so special as far as fostering physical interactions between people goes. is it really JUST the fact that people are playing the same game (one that requires you to consider your geographic location as a mechanic) in public? maybe that’s all we need for a really compelling experience? but that also seems to leave out a HUGE amount of potentially interesting and provocative experiences if this [jittery, stuttering app that connects people purely on the basis of knowing that other people are using it as well] becomes the dominant methodology with which one designs geography-dependent experiences

man, are eevees not incredibly common everywhere? everybody i know who is playing this has already evolved like five eevees, no way any of them would go out of their way for a vaporeon

there’s no way you’ll be able to trade straight-up, it would break the game. it’ll have to cost a bunch of stardust or something

there’s lots of suggestion they’ll release more pokemon later on - that will also break the game without several mechanics being significantly revamped, and i also don’t think 90% of the players will want to play once they only recognize 15% of the dudes or whatever

yeah a significant part of my being even vaguely curious about this right now is that I only know the original 150

I think for me the biggest design flaw is that the game doesn’t encourage the player to form a connection with their pokemon. In the original game, your starter pokemon is special and usually stays with you the whole game as you watch it evolve and grow stronger.
and even though pidgeys might be super common, the one you catch is YOUR pidgey, so you feel more attached to it.

By replacing the level up system with combat power ratings and candy, you have to catch multiples of each and all that matters is how high the CP is. So you spend time catching the pidgeys to evolve whichever happens to have the highest number on it, then you will just discard it as soon as you catch a higher level pidgeotto later on

Also, on 3DS I received a notification saying that pokemon blue, red and yellow were 30% off in the eShop, but when I go there to buy one, they are all at full price. What gives, Nintendo?

A lot of posters played Red & Blue when they came out, and have fond memories + expectations that this Pokémon game will hit similar plot/battle notes. Plus, the mechanics looks similar to the awful free-to-play standard “pay to win” ones.

Has anyone noticed that when you use a razz berry to make the pokemon easier to catch, your balls suddenly start veering way off like they are caught in a gust of wind?

Seems there is some ‘curve ball’ mechanic that is supposed to increase chances of catching the pokemons, but it seems to happen unexpectedly, and probably gets sort of switched on when you use a razz berry or great ball.
Problem is you can’t really tell it is going to happen and it is hard to control, so you end up missing most of the time.

This fact plus the way pokemon (even at low CP levels) become exponentially more likely to escape the balls at higher levels is starting to give me some real circus sidehow shenanigans vibes in this thing
