I’d enjoy a game of ark nova and I’d also enjoy too many games of rftg
Tulpa recently recommended Valley of the Kings to me, and I’ve now played it several times with different sets and player counts. It’s a lot of fun. Kind of like Dominion but more focused (in theme and mechanics).
You can use a card for its ability, for money, or for points (permanently “entombing” it) and the strategy is in the timing of when you do those things.
The only set that’s easily available and affordable happens to be the best one:
But look how nice the card backs look in the “premium edition” (which combines all three sets with fancy tarot-size cards).
Its my favorite deckbuilder because it is so focused and puzzle like
Async. I have no time to sit in one place sadly.
Friend me losers
I sent you a request just now but I couldn’t help noticing that you’re not a member of the official SB BGA group. I can only assume that’s because you saw that it includes members of the Dragon Quest gang.
Gonna nab this one, since the last Tulpa rec I got (Broom Service) was hugely great, and I’m not super happy with the other quick deck builders I got that play 4 players.
Edit: oh shit I thought the game was just $20! Would love to play it but for $70??
The $20 one is all you need to play the game. The expensive one is a deluxe Kickstarter edition that also includes a couple earlier sets.
I’ve found so far that 4-player games are very quick, maybe even a little too quick? But still fun.
Oh, then I’m in.
Also I am in for BGA stuff, whatever you all want to play, if you wouldn’t mind a including a newby.
I didn’t even know bga had groups
I made a game with the three people that just friended me but the names aren’t the same so I have no idea who is what. Well I recognized vodselbt
I, your enduring, Vodselbt.
It’s on!
I’ve begun my strategizing.
Also last night I played Dune Imperium finally. It’s more cut throat wrt combat than I was expecting! Looking forward to playing it more.
Dune: Imperium combat feels very leisurely, “do you yield sir”. plus there’s the whole losing all your committed troops, regardless of the outcome, that makes wild opportunistic swings pretty infrequent. what make you feel like it’s cutthroat?
I find tile lays/station token placement in 18xx far more cutthroat: oh you’re trying to connect to this city? I’ll just place this unupgradable tile in your way and block your other route with a station. hey you could have avoided this if you’d make every play as defensive and paranoid as possible, don’t blame me
Cutthroat is probably not the right word. I was just surprised how obligatory participating in combat sometimes felt, either to deprive others of spoils or to nab something really helpful. I’ve played other euros where it’s like there are different mechanisms, usually progression tracks, that can sometimes be fully ignored. But Dune Imperium feels like you need to participate in everything for some reason or another. It’s cool.
18xx is brutal in every aspect.
What’s more brutal Doom Execution animations or 18xx
I just noticed that they added these two games to BGA.
I like both of them, though I’ve played Hadrian’s Wall only once.
Is anyone interested in playing some additional asynchronous games? Maybe
Some of the above I barely remember how to play. The tooltips and rule summaries on the site are generally decent so it’s fine if you’ve never played before and want to learn.
Edit: Had to replace the poll because apparently “Show who voted” doesn’t work with the pie chart. Sorry to whoever’s vote I just erased.
