fog-to-black in interiors is so powerful and criminally underused now that we don’t have a technical reason to do it
y’all should perhaps give castlevania 64 a look, too…!
oh yeah if you’re ever in town you’re def hanging out with busted and us
it’s hard to justify a cross country trip even in other circumstances but at this point such a huge percentage of my friend group is clustered around that area that i guess i have no choice!
i love not being from seattle because it means i actually want to hang out with people lol
I’ve always been curious about Metal Wolf Chaos. While the theme amused me as much as everyone else on release, I had never been able to determine whether the game itself would be worthwhile beyond that.
The PS4 version was very cheap last week, so I picked it up. From the first couple missions, I gather that what you actually do is going to be entertaining but repetitive and maybe somewhat forgettable.
One thing I haven’t taken the time to figure out yet is the upgrade system. It seems like a combination of automatic upgrades (from clearing levels and rescuing hostages) and things you build with the collectibles that are there so you’ll repeat missions.
The game is a little darker in tone than I had expected. You’re constantly mowing down soldiers from your own military who are basically defenseless, and those hostage cages with timed explosives are vicious. But on top of the whoever’s-right-or-wrong-it’s-the-normal-people-who-suffer theme, there are the non-stop one-liners. The secretary character is particularly cynical.
This thread has made me want to try an Armored Core game. I think I’ve always confused that series with Front Mission, assuming I’ve seen it in action when I actually never have.
i ripped and converted all of the native musical sequence files from the PSX king’s field games (including pilot style) to MIDI. most of them are pretty listenable even with default general midi instrument mapping. enjoy:
actually these use this (roland sound canvas) specifically:
