I call all my characters Glenn and Janus
Persona took my original handle and made it into a Japanese name, which Iâve been unable to escape.
Someday Iâll learn Japanese and figure out the kanji for it.
isnt it just ăă«ăăčă in katakana? I donât think there would be kanji if itâs basically just a phonetic gagâŠ
Itâs actually a reasonably legit Japanese name (though obviously the surname would come first in Japanese contexts). Finding a kanji representation for it wouldnât be too hard, but itâs something he must do for himself in honorable weeaboo tradition.
Itâs like a furry picking their spirit animal.
And I want a Falcon Liger.
How could I forget: in any fantasy type game where I can make a female character, itâs Anakerie. Itâs from this probably really bad series of fantasy novels written by X-Men guy Chris Claremont and George Lucas based on the Willow movie that I read in '95. I just think itâs a cool name.
I forgot to mention that I eventually settled on a steady quartet - Mars, Lucky, Braxis and Ro
Named for the four protagonists of a smutty fantasy short story.
Just remembered: named the knight dude in FF9 âGhast.â
My pokemon always got âcleverâ joke names.
Scyther: Ginsu
Dragonite: Puff
Alakazam: Kreskin
Gyarados: Leviathan
Canât remember any others right now.
I mostly keep the names default or if it is my insert, give it my name. Only time it was both was with Dark Cloud 2.
Oh and all my Pokemon are named after to some reference tied to music. Toss out an Evolution family and I can tell you the name and were it comes from if you want more details.
Every videogame should let you name your weapons.
âBOWSERâ is the first file I made in ALttP, back in '92; âNOOSHAâ is my younger sisterâs name (prob made a file for her (Iâm sure she didnât bother playing for more than ten minutes)); âMarsuâ, almost definitely made in the early 00s when I thought spelling out âMarthâ as itâs pronounced in Japanese was neat
My copy of Secret of Evermore came with the prior ownerâs files, and theirs is the âLINKâ at the bottom
âExorâ is the Super Mario RPG boss whose name I guess I thought was cool
Note that both âBOWSERâ and âLINKâ are all caps
The only game Iâve actually played that catered to this was PSO (the s-rank weps)
Vagrant Story introduced the concept to me. Maybe I should pull that out too to find the names
i want a game where you can name your weapon, but only after undergoing a difficult rite, and naming the weapon greatly boosts its powers. Thatâd own, right?
The most recent Fire Emblem game lets you name crafted weapons, and at least one guy gets a huge stat boost for wielding a weapon with a long, stupid name. I forget what the English version requirement was, but it was like 6+ kanji in the Japanese version.
It was naming your weapon 12 characters (the text limit) lol
Such a great idea, merging gameplay with character like that.
Always freeze up when the game asks for input and go for one of my generic videogame-ish-name standbys Dagles, Pokey, Lolo and Eggby. Always enter âNNOONNâ as character name in Zelda games because I think LTTP was the first time I had to do one of these and I really fucked up on the letter picker screen but was mildly endeared by the result.
EDIT: also TOMBY ever since i picked up a âtomboy bookâ in one of the dragon quests and it turned me into a TOMBY. dragon quest has always been at least one step aheadâŠ
I used to always name my main characters variations of Billy. Like Lily, Willy, Beffy (not sure where this came from).
Any princess type character is named Oxford. Thats about the only consistent naming scheme I have.
I do think too long about names and I can dig through savefiles soon to demonstrate
