News Thread XII: Xbox Humiliation Ritual - Part 12 the 12th

I went looking through the EA catalog of PS4-forward, see if there was something I wanted. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst (a game I have considered buying for 5 dollars for 10 years.) Mass Effect Trilogy…maybe? But also not like I have cared. Think I would rather just replay 2 in 18 hours.

Think of all the Dragon Age sequels I’ll never play, just like all the Dragon Age games I haven’t played.

If you’re considering this based on your enjoyment of the first game, I disrecommend it

The Saboteur, Burnout Paradise, and a few Need For Speeds is probably the only EA thing worth buying.

I would buy a Saboteur remaster. Doesn’t even have to be a fancy one just let me play the game again on PS5. I have the PC and PS3 version and currently no PC or PS3 to play them on.

I would even settle for being able to stream the PS3 version on PS5 through PSPlus. I never got to finish it because I got distracted being a saboteur.

EA spent 20 years hoovering up an incredible number of studios and franchises, killing all of them, and then dying a quiet death of releasing fifa, madden, and a battlefield game every few years. fantastic work, glad that’s worth 300 billion barrels of oil or whatever

I play counter-recommend! It’s not as good but has some interesting problems as an open world follow-up. It is faithful to the original in that combat is the worst part and mandatory at certain points.

All I have ever wanted from an action game is an entire suite of actions based around that part in Lethal Weapon 3 when Jet Li grabs Gel Gibson’s gun and just slides half of it off, and Mirror’s Edge was the closest we’ve gotten but it didn’t even know it was in the right country. I don’t want a no guns achievement or a tough moral choice not to use lethal weapons I want to dismantle a group of guys with guns because punching is cooler than guns and cool wins.

combat was never truly mandatory in the first mirror’s edge

It was not designed for you to avoid combat at all costs but it is possible to beat the game without even throwing a punch (I stubbornly did this on my first and only playthrough of the game. The hardest level of the game was the server room, because I had to bait the enemies into shooting the servers for me, without even being able to disarm them)

That is true, I did the same thing for the no guns achievement to my shame.

Though, I could swear there were some combat bossfights where you gotta punch a guy.

This looks neat and I hate how much I’m put off by “MSPaint-noir” as a label

this is actually what melee combat in Severed Steel is like, except instead of fieldstripping it you can toss it back at the guy to KO him. even if you want to use guns you can’t reload so you have to constantly go into melee like this. my favourite is nabbing the gun, kicking off their chest to go upside down, tossing it at the nearest guy, then divekicking the next one to work thru a big group of guys without ever touching the ground
