monkey warm…
demo of this is out
parrying is definitely high on my list of things i dont want to do in a doom game
the game could be good but, ‘its like exam time, everything else is a quiz’ is such a dire design cliché for video games.
based on 2016 and eternal it seems borderline impossible to tell from prerelease chatter whether this will be good or not because the way people talk about these only barely aligns with how the combat loop turns out in practice
On the one hand the appeal of Doom should not be expressed through the language of studying and maths. On the other hand, I can kind of see that language being used for a mid 90s game ad, so maybe it’s just always been this way.
TDA is probably going to err towards Eternal where someone in id goes “hey instead of giving Doomguy combat arenas and control flow though stage and setpiece design, what if we just make the video game a character action game with a heavily signposted combat rotation”
and then they will give me something stupid (like the super shotgun with meathook) and I will ignore their loop in favor of dumbass bullshit
it’s just strange to me that they insist on making doom games that dont seem to be designed around anything people like from doom and are instead more similar to games that are decidedly not like doom
Doom 3 bumming everyone out became the mold
the weird thing though was that 2016 was either an adequately or extremely successful revival depending on your POV and eternal wasn’t more than 20% different, it was just like, entirely in the wrong direction
Math yes but as for studying…
he studied the blade…
what Doom really needs is a hub world where you craft and place furniture for friendly demons
Having just mainlined Elden Ring it’s incredible how much the mainstream attributes this attitude to From and how little From games have to do with it
Eternal already leaned in that direction and made the Doom Slayer a giant nerd, making him Juste Belmont would be a step up.
Sekiro is closest to being a pure skill check but in practice so many big fights are about continuously running away and throwing all the garbage in your pockets at the enemy
