your reminder that game voice actors are still on strike and several games are just plowing forward anyway (either with interim agreements because they’re good people or ??? like Genshin, which has shipped several patches with muted characters in the English dub)
Wow, I love this aesthetic but I cringed watching the video due to a lifetime of this specific flavor of isometric view platforming never having decent depth perception for jumps, which appears to be this game’s main verb.
Yeah, the passive character multiplying / extra life accumulation thing seems like an admission that the platforming itself is a crapshoot. But I imagine the appeal is more about the feeling of playing as a multiplicity.
Going to keep reposting my response to their demonstration, because yet again the generative AI doesn’t get better, it just gets used in a new medium that it’s bad at in the same way as the old medium
"...our model can create complex gameplay sequences that are consistent over several minutes."
"The more closely the generated gameplay resembles the actual game, the more accurately Muse has captured the dynamics of the game"
so all you need for the AI game to function is to make a real video game that is playable, and then record hundreds of thousands of hours of it being played, and then WHAM can interpret that video back into a worse version of that game
Envisioning Microsoft shutting down a bunch more studios they own to cut costs and using this to generate sequels to whatever franchises they own by using the original games as data to harvest for “WHAM” (kinda a perfect name for this brute-force stupidity).
lol this sucks
I love when soup man travels through artstation tunnel. cool level design! they really got soup man’s jump feeling 70% right!
If Nintendo gets into this, master hand is going to look really fucked up in the next smash
So they fed it a mascot cart looking thing and half way through all the generative versions, the car turns around toward the screen and starts jumping?
Yeah I always wanted Mario Kart to turn into a platformer with the shittiest possible camera.
Fuck all this stuff.
All of these game studios under MS are getting sold off or dissolved. If something as farcical as “AI” is the pitch for what transforms the Xbox division into something that can bring in the returns management expect after that zillion dollar acquisition spree, it’s a done deal. It’s not just this, it’s rumblings that their next hardware “has AI,” like that means anything to people buying games.
yeah but that means you can fire all support staff and use AI for upkeep. gamers win again!
They’re really getting done dirty here

i hate it bro
Oh they won’t just be using this to create sequels to older games, they’ll also use it to ““preserve”” old games
Just imagine instead of running a game locally on an emulator all you need is 70,000 hours of a lost game that was streamed on twitch, and as long as you pantomime the actions you can sort of get a smeary average of the video. And they can inject melting Pepsi ads.
this is so, so bad
there’s a good chance they’ll give it up once the hype cycle is over and it’s borne out as nonsense but it is very much in like “an insult to life itself” territory for me
In the near future you can only play games made by humans in a toxic workplace or games made by an algorithm based on toxic attitudes. That’s the two options.
The AI-generated video stream that acts like a game is blatantly dogshit! There’s no use case for it and there never will be! Like people are wasting serious time in their lives working under companies that wanna pretend this shit is real.
The closest this thing will ever be to being used/adopted is for a fake videogames in TV shows.
