doesn’t look great or dragon quest to me
just weird “realistic” environments smeared with semi cell shaded nonsense designs. looks like every other game. I don’t get the need to turn anachronistic games into phony forward thinking design docs. I guess it might be novel in japan where these games presumably don’t have any market share, but here in the rest of the world I could play pin the tail on the donkey in a gamestop and come up with something that is this only better.

First to freeman: yeah but if I want walk around a toriyama world I only have a billion japan developed DBZ games or a gorgeous anime world I think some of the Naruto games let me do that so I forget my point.
I thought the WiiU couldnt do shaders or was that textures or wait… Native particule effects? I forget my question.
Everyone who complains about being “forced” to play portable games on portable systems owns a PS4.

Best guess is they’re trying to appeal to ppl who loved DQ8 and ppl who preferred the older style at the same time.
“The Point” of the ps4 ver. is that ppl who grew up loving Dragon Quest might seriously dig the idea of running around in a glorious open field w/ slimes and gigantes and stuff roaming around them in FULL MODERN 3D. i’m not even one of those ppl but i can immediately grasp the appeal.

I take your point that just because enix has been hilariously ignorant of modern graphics technology up to now we shouldn’t think this a revelation but it’s also the first new traditional DQ on a console in a decade so why shouldn’t it look like this

It looks like Heroes and Builders. They all look like “next gen” DQ8s or more powerful 3DS DQ games. This is totally in line with that. Not to say I’m more interested in this than Heroes 2 or Builders 2 for that matter. Not to say I don’t see this as boring. This is all just in line with Dragon Quest. Hopefully it’ll be charming.

people get so fucking mad whenever I don’t like something, because one time I didn’t like something else they played when they were a kid. who gives a shit, SB hates your favorite video game. I’ll play the 3ds one, provided they don’t take three years to release it here. that game looks like dragon quest with a cute gimmick, the ps4 one looks like what they imagine dragon quest is supposed to look like in 2017 if it didn’t look like dragon quest

Now I’m not on my phone woof the PS4 stuff does not look good and the 3DS 2D bits look FFiOS bad.
I’m not sure I really understand the point of having the 3D and the 2D bits. it’s immediately interesting on a superficial level, I suppose, but I think it would just become distracting
