wonders do happen.

Now I just need to hunt down a complete copy of it and get back to finding out how good the raspi3 does emulating PSX!

Nice! I think I only ever made it to disc 2 on LO.

Also Blue Dragon is BC and $20 right now. Might check that out eventually.

I was thinking about picking it up, but I think I’m gonna wait for hands-on impressions because so much of the footage I’ve seen reminds me of bad mobile games that I’m a bit scared to jump in at full price

yeah i’ve been looking at some of the playthroughs on youtube today and ‘bad mobile game’ seems about right

still, bad mobile game with kenji ito

Summary of Degenki’s recent article on it: http://www.mmcafe.com/cgi-bin/forums/bbs/messages/13575.shtml#76644

Excerpts without context:
* There’s many things you won’t understand
if you don’t play all characters. Even at 70 hours, there are many
mysteries left.

* On your first run, you will go from mystery to mystery
without understanding much. On top of that, some events have different
outcomes, and some other disappear if you wait too long (other criteria
may be involved).

* Each of them found different “this is the best strategy and it works most of the time” and don’t agree at all.

* The game is made so that players would
talk about it and share their different experiences in order to
understand whys and hows.

* It’s quite strange that when you recruit
a character, you are the one selecting “I will go with you/I won’t join
you”, but you select it from the point of view of the new character,
not from the point of view of the hero/the party.

* With the amount of events and different
outcomes, it’s no surprise the game was so delayed. Especially amazing
when you think our lord Kawazu probably wrote everything on his blessed
own. Glory!

* It’s rare for Kawazu to delay a game
[has it ever happened?], and this one really feels like he poured a lot
of heart into the smallest details. It’s strange it’s released under the
shadow of FF15, when you think of it… Though, as one of the writers
say, “if you’re a SaGa fan, why would you care about FF”.
oh shiiiiiit

it looks so bad though

and it probably isn’t going to be localized

and as a huge fan of saga frontier I wasn’t that taken with saga 2 DS

hmmmmmm

they did trademark the title here, i don’t know if that means anything

Level 5 is still really confident in their ability to will Successful Multimedia Franchises into existence, huh.

The lip movement is creepy.

I do really love that visual trick; closest thing I can think of to it is dwarf fortress stonesense. It’s actually pretty inventive for DQ!

so are the PS4 and 3DS games each their own thing? or is this straddling some weird line where they’re the same game phasing between 3 or 4 different generations of nothingness? because I really don’t see what the point of the PS4 game is, or why anyone would want to play it. I’d call it strange, but I think that’s giving it too much credit.

the point of the PS4 game is “look at this old japanese company learning to program shaders for the first time, wow, sure is purty,” same as every good title on the Wii U

Huh? It looks great! It’s Dragon Quest!

doesn’t look great or dragon quest to me

just weird “realistic” environments smeared with semi cell shaded nonsense designs. looks like every other game. I don’t get the need to turn anachronistic games into phony forward thinking design docs. I guess it might be novel in japan where these games presumably don’t have any market share, but here in the rest of the world I could play pin the tail on the donkey in a gamestop and come up with something that is this only better.

First to freeman: yeah but if I want walk around a toriyama world I only have a billion japan developed DBZ games or a gorgeous anime world I think some of the Naruto games let me do that so I forget my point.

I thought the WiiU couldnt do shaders or was that textures or wait… Native particule effects? I forget my question.

Everyone who complains about being “forced” to play portable games on portable systems owns a PS4.
