The original gameā€™s style was already very close to vector art. I assume it would be easy to just recreate the original lines than having to paint over everything with new art, like the MI SEs did.

Smells like an upscaling algorithm to me. You can get really good results out of those nowadays, with an artist to go through and touch up where the algorithm was wrong.

You want to pay the most attention to how it handles scenes with a lot of colors, like the intro part where you see the area around the bar. Feels less vectory and more like someone took a garbage filter like 2xSaI to it, with lines that are very stairsteppy and irregular.

The actual character art looks great because itā€™s a lot simpler.

Oh yuck.

They moved the rock when redrawing the background for widescreen, but didnā€™t fix the sign. The MIs had a few bits like that, but not on the first screen in the game, at least.

marvel vs. capcom 4 goes back to 2 vs 2 since we all know how beloved the original gameā€™s gambit infinites and tatsunokoā€™s lost planet robot are. oh shit ace combat 7!

Windjammers, a Wipeout collection, remastered Full Throttle. I canā€™t believe I feel excited about a bunch of ports. And in the meantime Iā€™m having so much fun playing a Pokemon game. When did I become a gamer again?
