I think this collection stops around 2001 or so (unless I’m missing something), but it’s also a good opportunity to mention that https://www.retromags.com/ is functioning again in full force and now has fairly complete issues of NP (and a whole bunch of other magazines, strategy guides and other ephemera) as long as they haven’t been published in the last 10 years. Their collection of Next Generation, for example, is now way more complete than it used to be when the site was out of commission. I think the lengths this guy has gone to maintain this thing are so great that I actually donated money to become a lifetime member and get downloads direct from the server.
What? Why
Bought a cheap copy of Prey for 360 recently in anticipation of the reboot. While I’m happy they’re revisiting the franchise, I’m skeptical it’s going anywhere other than bioshock + space horror.
I’m down for developers taking a stab at making Bioshock Not Shit and I certainly trust Arkane with the task, even if (especially if?) they involve making a prop hunt game too.
Although I’d rather Routine just come out.
Also shown at QuakeCon:
look how hard is it to make another scifi lovecracft mashup with a single player campaign
that eyeball looks cool though
by the time this thing actually comes out I’ll be too busy personally experiencing the unending torment of the lower planes in person wont even need the videogame version
That new Quake looks pretty tight, cynicism rescinded.
The fighting in that first GIF looks impossibly complex but maybe it makes more sense when playing.
could be like a sidescrolling Arkham with contextualized animations
New old Prince of Persia?
I would love a return to the glorious era* of Numpad-based combat stances
*like, five games, maybe?
to be fair, probably half these buttons wouldn’t work reliably at any given time, so “Numpad/2-based combat games” might be more appropriate
I am assuming it has a dedicated dodge/parry button that doesnt care which dorection an attack comes from. And attacks are also single button but you attack in the direction you last pushed. It only looks complicated because of the large set of animations
Quake Champions: Still Not As Fast As Quake 3
All these animations read like mockups to me. I mean, at minimum, the HUD hearts / blue bar is in the exact same state in all of them.
Had they a working demo, they’d show a clip from that rather than (or at least in addition to) these gifs.
It’ll be a decent amount of work to get those into a game and working as smoothly as the gifs show.
