I’m sure you’re all familiar with I Come with the Rain, the 2009 but filmed in 2007 tran anh hung film, soundtracked by godspeed you/silver mt zion, where josh hartnett is a broken mechanism from his encounter with a satan/serial killer (elias koteas) when he was a cop, and is now a private detective hired by god to find his missing son (takuya kimura, who you may know recently from judgement). Lee byung-hun plays another satan. I was just thinking of my favorite part, where hartnett enters this nightclub and just sits with his back to the dancers
minbo was some of the fucking most hilarious physical comedy ive ever seen that transformed effortlessly into a super moving anti bullying PSA. no wonder the director (supposedly) got killed over this, its super ballsy

oh yeah titane was another 2021 movie about head trauma with songs that told you exactly how to feel and too many ideas that didnt go anywhere
there are moments of hilarity and gross and ridiculousness but its a very cis reading of dysphoria and the only thing actually compellign are moments of intense physical pain
it also starts with a very french very horny 40 minute long erotic slasher that… makes the movie 40 minutes longer
raw didnt really resonate with me either i dont think i like this director
Raw was very stressful for me but i liked it more the more i thought about it. i’m excited to see this one and probably be real put off by it
raw i like to think about more than watch but the more i thikn about this movie the more i dislike it. its so fucking surface everything. ill never stop laughing at the gay fireman rave though
yeah the more i think about it the more disappointed i feel. im sympathetic to raw but it has issues and frustratingly titane didn’t evince any, like, directorial growth to me. i had a good time watching it in a big cinema and would recommend it but it’s mid in the same ways. and i want to like her shit!!! sorry but i think this made me a ducournau hater, she’s 2 for 2 underbaked
Raw actually made me flinch, so I probably gave it too much credit when I watched it because its so rare that a horror movie does anything that actually repulses me
she’s good at making you flinch and to be clear i enjoyed both films - especially raw hit something (proclivity for D&A abuse) in me when i first watched it - but 2 films deep i don’t think ducournau has much interesting to say about the material she’s working with
there is one scene i really like and its the one where the doctor, still in the examining room, leans back, lights up a cigarette, and starts reminiscing frenchly about her memories of being a student
