Movies You Watched Today: Return Of The Thread (Part 1)

No, no, this is the one with Margot Robbie

i haven’t minded him in other stuff, but yes, the Crank movies are his absolute apex.

I finally watched Happy Together. It is painfully beautiful. I quickly became obsessed with a song that’s featured in the film, “Cucurrucucu Paloma” as sung by Caetano Veloso. It is the most perfect needle drop in a movie I have ever heard. The song’s core is an onomatopoeic sob, first from a man, then from a dove. I listened to ten different versions of this song on my drive home from work. I hope everyone gets a break from their loneliness this week.

street mobster and graveyard of honor seem more like what I assumed battles without honor and humanity was going to be, everyone just being total sociopath maniacs. but battles was just about young men being cannon fodder for shitty bosses. every gun fight or stabbing is a lot of flailing and screaming and it’s lucky anytime a hit goes successfully at all.

the part where they’re locked down by constant police surveillance so one guy calls the guy he’s at war with just to fuck with him was real funny

last guy in the series who we see die, just some young nobody grunt, falls down on what looks like a red peony gambler poster

now that’s some cinema right there

but we shouldn’t make such a big deal out of consensual violence in my opinion. police involvement just makes these things escalate and anytime you start legislating life around what bored comfortable suburbanites like to work themselves up over you end up right back on the path to a surveillance nanny state hellworld like we’re in now. in addition to a right to permanent revolution and right to bear arms, people should have a right to rumble

I’ve always maintained that sometimes violence is the only option. When some libertarian dickhead I went to high school said my best friend deserved to die of an OD I immediately punched him in the face and got my ass kicked by him and his dipshit friends but it was a matter of honor. Some things you can’t let lie. Americans don’t want you to be able to settle scores!

anyway I did a double feature of hard target and double team yesterday and JCVD exclaims “Yeah!” in both movies exactly when your thinking it

Dicen que por las noches no mĂĄs se le iba en puro llorar
They say that he spent his nights purely weeping

Sometimes, crying is the only expression that makes sense.

I’ve said this many times before:

Criminalize hitting children
Legalize hitting adults

daphny and i watched belly of the beast, where a guy named “Fitch McQuoid” who steven seagal calls a “trailer park bitch” is wearing a silk dead or alive xtreme beach volleyball shirt

Oh shit belly of the beast is like the second best bad seagal movie, after out for a kill. Good call.

Don’t forget Ghosts of Mars! That has the greatest cast ever assembled!

I pulled my unwatched thriftstore dollar blu-ray copy of Gamer off the shelf last weekend but opted for something else. I’m probably going to finally check that out this weekend.

Gamer is like the funniest shit ever. somebody literally says we live in a society in it and theres a scene where the pro gamer protagonist is navigating his porn tabs and going “gay, gay, retardedly gay,” i watched it on 9/11 last year

is gamer the one where he drinks a shit ton of vodka then drunkenly stumbles to an escape car under supergunfire and pukes up the vodka in the gas tank? top ten movie moment

Yeah that ruled! Crank 2 set a very high bar, and I don’t think this overshadowed it, but it was pretty great. Bummed I skipped this one in the theater way back when.

Always exciting to spot Lloyd Kaufman in something high budget too
