Pretty sure that’s Boon’s voice as the director too.
That’s a good pull!
Kinda glad they brought back Cage’s tacky faux Oscar, too.
And now I’m mad remembering that was one of the fatalities you couldn’t use on Kratos in MK9 >:(
is that Will Arnett’s voice? that’s a choice i both dislike and completely understand
I will say, as funny as that video is, I am really going to miss mid-40’s divorced dad Johnny Cage. It was too perfect!
Turns out you’ll actually get both it seems!
Cassie Cage, Erron Black, Jacqui Briggs, and Kotal Kahn also confirmed (most likely playable?). Also the Shao Kahn will actually be a part of the story unlike previous pre-order only characters like Goro and Darkseid.
Love how the “old” ninja costumes are just reverting back to the MK movie looks now. The story seems to be setting up two different factions with Kronika recruiting everyone Raiden has screwed over in the past and SF with Kotal Khan’s forces still following Raiden despite his clothes now being all black and his eyes crackling evil red stuff.
@1:39 are some real Shaolin Monks vibes
youtube comment pointing out that past Johnny seems to be looking up his own IMDB page there
Kinda bummed they replaced Cassie’s VA, but I’m glad to hear Johnny back.
Seems like they’re more or less retelling Armageddon in a far wilder way, even though MK9 starts with that game from the outset.
Makes me real curious to see who comes back, either unannounced or as DLC. Time travel opens up a lot of options!
(Through google translate) I like how in most of the character profile descriptions on this page seem to have a line about how the characters’ names are pronounced completely differently then they actually are spelled:
Scorpion’s VA has changed as well, along with Sonya. I mean, I can kind of understand popular VAs are busy and with them probably really upping the amount of work required with their focus on realistic facial motion capture and all that… but it still bothers me when a direct sequel taking place right after the events of a previous game, not even seemingly too far into the future or anything, and with there never really being any doubt about that this game would eventually get made right on schedule just changes the VA of what was basically a main character and just wants to pretend like everything was as it was.
Kano, too, from the sounds of things.
Could be worse! Could have had more stunt casting like Rousey.
Rousey’s promo and mic work in WWE is terrible, the clip they use in that story trailer doesn’t sound any better
if you’re gonna cast a wrestler to do MK voices, then they should’ve got The Miz for Johnny Cage, his in-ring persona is almost exactly the same
I guess Shang Tsung is the first DLC character, voiced by the dude who played him in the movie.
One of the reasons I love Mortal Kombat games is how throwaway joke characters somehow become integral parts of the series lore.
What deep-cut character should come back in this game and be vital to the plot? Frost? Raiko? Meat? Mokap?
Maybe make him the mokujin-like (random character moveset) or dural-like (moveset is an amalgamation of the cast.) To beat the final boss, everyone turns to a man who can copy everyone’s moves.
I dunno how popular the Virtua Fighter series actually got, but “Dural-like” feels like a deep cut to me and I love it.
is mokap supposed to be the dan version of stryker?
also have they announced stryker for this yet? hopefully OG MK3-style stryker.
We need to come to a joint consensus on whether to keep relaying this game’s PR machine here on in the fightman general sooner or later.
Somehow disturbing just how young Young Jax looks.
Hearing Ice Cube in a Mortal Kombat trailer is just the world we live in now.
a mortal kombat trailer with rap music that isn’t wu tang clan creates extremely unstable ch’i
Summon your great ancestor as a stand
The beta for this is up and it’s pretty alright.
Kinda wish there was a faster way to see/swap out moves from custom builds? Even just a quick little animation with damage info, or something!
They’ve swapped the usual end poses and such with Injustice 2 style super slow-mo cinematic poses. It’s OK, I guess? A lot of MKX’s fatalities ended with a bunch of weird gobs of flesh wiggling like Jell-O around a vivisected corpse, so these are at least more thought out.
That’s a lot to say that I haven’t figured out all the changes to the combat just yet. Looks like they went back on the initial reveal of having EX moves performed with individual, bespoke button combinations in favor of tapping R1 to enhance moves, which, yeah! Good!
They’ve also changed the way characters and combos feel a pretty good deal, though. Maybe there’s a way to change it, but having Scorpion immediately follow his spear throw with throwing his enemy behind them and slashing them in the back is kinda jarring? I’m used to the usual stun effect that has, so I guess it’ll definitely feel different from MK9 and X.
