MON HUNTERS thread

I just ordered this game because it’s heavily discounted and because the little group with whom I’ve been consistently playing EDF suggested that I try playing it with them. I’m completely unfamiliar with the series other than a short video I watched last night.

When I played Tomb Raider, I thought the puzzles and things were fun, but I eventually quit because I had to keep killing animals for no good reason. I’m a little wary that this game will feel like that as well. I guess I will soon see. At a glance, it strikes me as a sort of crowded, complicated, colorful Shadow of the Colossus but without the implication that you might not be the hero in the story. Hopefully the monsters are at least terrorizing villages or something.

It appears to have attractive environments, at any rate.

The monsters are terrorizing the ecosystem basically is most of the narrative impetus in the monhun series fwik

The tone of Monster Hunter is really interesting; it’s a bright, hopeful fantasy where killing monsters is great fun! but it’s aware of ecological traumas and posits monsters in a Godzilla universe-esque role as uncontrollable forces of natural chaos or balance, which the hunters attempt to discern and control but frequently mistake.

World features a long goose chase towards a goal that nobody understood to begin with but rushed forwards in full confidence, and it pulls it out while remaining a tropical breeze.

I chose the insect glaive as my weapon. It took me a few fights to get used to it and I frequently miss the monster when jumping around, but I like the way it works and I think I’ll stick with it.

The best armor available to me so far is part of some kind of temporary content, and unfortunately it’s quite ugly. But I mixed in a few pieces from another set despite the inferior stats and now it’s tolerable.

I think the thing I like least about the game so far is the animation when the character eats something.

The thing I like most might be exploring a new area and collecting bugs and plants and things.

this is free with Game Pass on XBox now. nobody here has/would do that, though, right?

because i’d be willing to give this game another shot.

When I was asking about the Witcher event earlier in this thread I didn’t specify that I’m on PC. It’s only now on PC! Time to play again!

That looks spectacular. I especially like that rola bosta, as they call it in Brazil, rolling a snowball

hoping tree-wielding moose now means we have two monsters that require you to panic dive

they’re giving every class the ability to use slinger with your weapon out?? that’s cool i guess but is kinda a huge blow to sns utility/uniqueness

but other this looks hella rad. i kinda chuckled cause they kept calling it a “MASSIVE expansion” in the live stream.

i mean i’m getting it anyway

i still need to crack hr 50 and beat those double kirin

I’m also interested in this, if it’s on PS4 (assuming the platforms are separate).

i don’t know that anyone else is particularly playing right now (i have firm plans to catch up this summer before iceborne) but i’m happy to hop on and send you an invite whenever i’m around. i’m t8128 on psn if we’re not already buds

BUMP

Also THIS angry bugger is returning as free DLC this October which, given the current expansion of the roster old-and-new feels overly generous as is.

Roll on January and my PC version
I am ready to hun new mons
Caoslayer on Youtube doing good work identifying what gunlance things have been buffed (basically everything)

My already-ridiculous Blast Gunlancer build will be pleased to know this, as will I.
