i’ve been rekindling a (somehow forgotten) childhood love of legos the last few weeks and picked up a big classic box to fiddle around with in between spending too much time looking at microscale builds on pinterest
what initially inspired me was seeing someone in discord talk about mobile frame zero and just falling in love with all these cute little mecha. i’m not particularly interested in playing MFZ since i don’t have much experience with tabletop wargames but the community is amazing for build inspiration and free plans & shopping lists for building articulated walkers from cheap common lego bricks. while the box i bought was pretty light on hinges and other mechanical bricks, i was able to find a parts list for fielding a full MFZ squad that made ordering everything from brickowl really easy
all that stuff finally arrived this weekend so i built this artillery chickenwalker last night based off one from the MFZ source book + some added colour and my attempt at a lego railgun? baby’s first mecha
Not to be lazy, but do you have a link to those? I think my kid would dig this as a building style, and he has a ton of parts, but we can supplement that as well based on lists.
iirc this is enough to build 5 total of any of the 3 designs in the source book (a reverse joint armless walker, a humanoid biped, and a quadruped)
the linked brickowl list will automatically add them to your cart across a bunch of different sellers but you’ll need to manually add that top handlebar part, it’s missing from the list and you can’t build the Hi-Leg heel without it (i had to improvise on mine and it would look way better with the right part)
i think it came to like $55 cad with shipping for me
built a new mobile frame zero mech last night, this time the “ST-07 Chub” (i love these names) design from the rule book plus a big ol hammer off the top of my head
really love building these little fellas. gonna do a quadruped next i think?
