How does the color affect your mood when playing in the deeper regions?
Also, does anyone know if the separate tiles are colorized differently in a Super Game Boy? I know Metroid II had unique colors played in a Game Boy color but that was a hardcoded palette for select titles in the hardware, right?
I think everything but the sprites was just blue?
The color is a trade-off. You lose some of the frisson, the tension and atmosphere that defines the experience. But, you get a better appreciation for how the game is put together and how pretty it really is. It’s not a purist’s paradise, shall we say, but I tried to be sensitive and pay attention to what was going on, environmentally and in terms of narrative.
It’s a much more accessible, basically. I just wanted to see if it was possible to colorize it without barfing all over, as all the previous patches I’ve seen do, and in the process lead some snoot-snoots to look at it more closely, maybe ditch some of their preconceptions.
The zip on your website contains a .gbp file, but not the advertised .ips file. (I tried using the GB Colorizer to apply the .gbp file to the game, but apparently my current computer kvetches when trying to use the program.)

metroid ii is one of my fav games and I’m always curious what a DX ver would look like done right so ty for this!

I don’t recall the patch’s name, although I did download it a while ago and thought it looked good.
Oh, there have been dozens.
I’ve tried them all. They all suck, to varying degrees.
There’s a long discussion on Toups’s Facebook page where I go through every color patch I can find and point out the good but mostly the what-the-hell-were-they-thinking of each.
I’m sure a few of you will be proud to know that this patch got linked from Reddit, and the gamer Nazis there were ready to give it praise until they read my essay.
They did not like it.
I still got it, man.
