the only way they could have made this worse than including both poppy and harmony korine is if it was also from a script by max landis

anyone playing this yet? i am being suckered into considering buying it. miss bungie gunfeel v bad
i watched someone play last night and it didn’t look very compelling. my computer can’t run it anyway
same but have sated it a bit by playing h3 again
it’s in line behind finishing requiem and esoteric ebb before death stranding 2 pc comes out and I’m pretty busy all the time but I did get it and like it
I still dunno why you’re so defensive about a company that demonstrated it had every intention of stealing someone’s work, and only paid up when they got nervous. That’s still *beyond* shitty, later pay or no.
i’ve been playing it with a buddy and having a good time
Are you filling the third spot with a random or you running duos in squads and if so, how is that going?
no fill. at least with the levels of loot people have now, it’s very possible to 2v3 because the ttk is quite short. it’s not hunt showdown short, but it’s not terribly far off. if you’re okay with playing a little slower it’s been fairly easy to get a pick on one person and then you’re playing a real 2v2.
managing sight lines is key. always have cover, do NOT get team shot. player advantage means they can rush you and beat you with health pools. always move in a way to isolate individual targets when you take fights. if you’re in a bad spot or losing the fight, find a way to disengage, reset, rotate, surprise them again. or if you’re running out of resources, just leave. never take a fair fight.
very carefully listening to sounds is also crucial for this style of play. shooting ALWAYS means players (it’s either bots shooting at players or players shooting, but either way). i’m not sure if i’ve ever seen a bot open a door, so doors almost always mean players and they’re LOUD. birds and little red ticks and plants going off mean players. player footsteps are significantly different than bots too; bots are metallic with a slower cadence, players are less rigid, thumpier with a really resonant low end.
i think hunt has trained both of us to be uniquely good at this playstyle though so ymmv. hunt sounds travel much farther, but the main concepts are the same and i’m constantly keeping mental notes of directions i’ve heard players in. since i started understanding the sounds better, it’s very rare we get completely blindsided by a team, and as long as we shoot first our fights have been pretty competitive against trios.
we’ve also run into a lot of rooks (solo players in a weak shell) and maybe 25% of the teams we run into are true duos, so it hasn’t felt particularly oppressive yet.
edit: oh and be very careful of AI. easier to get overwhelmed by them with two. try to synchronize your fire against them, burn grenades and cooldowns and util if you have to to end the fight with them as fast as possible. being distracted by AI is one of the most common ways to get snuck up on by enemy teams and you cannot afford that in a duo.
bots can open doors (unfortunately for me)
i bought this game in case anyone wants to do a team up type thing. today or tomorrow evening?
The co-creators of Caves of Qud, our favorite roguelike fever dream, worked as narrative consultants on Marathon—which mostly meant they ‘got to sit there in the room and throw completely absurd ideas at the wall’
So it seems like the Cryo Archives level is 3-player groups only, does anyone in Europe area/time want to team up? (I am terrible)
also ranked and cryo archive only seem to be available at the weekends for some reason
ok the reasoning is explained in this twitter post:
