im at the level of marathon I quit at last: G4 Sunbathing. In a lot of levels you are waiting for elevators or doors to open back up, or maybe they’re automatic and just on a very slow timer. Lots of “platforming”. Several levels later I finally have a 3rd gun though.

That’s a rather infamous one because of how large it is, and the vacuum… the designer wanted to recreate what it would feel like traversing a ship built from a moon.

I feel like this kind of design is where they went with Marathon 2, in that it’s meant to feel like exploring a ruined alien world and less like a straightforward FPS.

Marathon is so cool…

After I played Apotheosis X Black Mesa was only 2 bucks, then I felt like staying with Source so I’m giving Portal 2 a quick replay since I haven’t touched it since release (it is as mid as I remember). After that maybe it’s back to ol Marathon… I’ve only played through the trilogy once…

Wondering if I should allow myself to get lost in these levels because I keep having to check with the map to get anywhere. but I did get past G4 Sunbathing thanks to a guide, that map woulda been impossible to do I think, the whole map looks very similar and it’s easy to get turned around.

Trying to remind myself the developers had only made 1 other FPS at the time but I gotta say these levels are just kinda miserable to go through. Clausterphobic. Not easy to know where I’m going. Placement of save points is particularly kinda cruel at times. Bob-B-Q doesn’t have one until the level is almost halfway through.

I always imagine some industrial things just need to be really really hot, and thus lava was called for. But no railings? What happened to OSHA…

The Marathon is a converted moon so I guess it was there before they put the spaceship bits in and they just kept it because it’s kinda rad. More like, why isn’t there lava on more spaceships?

Aightt so a friend of mine has turned me onto games that liscenced the Marathon 2 engine and I may have to play some of these. One of them is called Damage Incorporated and you lead a squad of NPC marines against white nationalists

Another one is called Prime Target. It features real deal FMVs.

Last is ZPC which features art by Aubrey Hughes, who did the art for KMFDM. I might have to play this one it looks wild

I made a video about damage incorporated, talked to the creator and everything!!

Wheels! is another one, a fps to help kids learn how to use electric wheelchairs so they don’t bump into walls or get beat up by clowns in real life. I did a video on that one too but it’s a million years old.

ZPC has great style but it has consumable save items

Prime Target has some cool new engine features and the murder mystery idea is fun but the level design is boring as hell. Incredibly satisfying shotgun tho

Supplice dropped its fourth of six planned episodes yesterday. It’s a group of veteran fan DooM creators building a homage to both it and Marathon. Leans on the former perhaps more than the latter, but the trappings, aesthetics and story delivery are all there, and the game itself plays terrific.

I cannot do Colony Ship For Sale: Cheap, it’s the worst FPS level I’ve played, this is just mind numbingly unfair.
