Magfest 2019: Windjammed if you do, jammed if you don't

Yeah, it didn’t have a name anywhere so I just made one up. That name is way better.

i think key questions to ask whenever showing any game in public is “will children like it” and “will drunk adults like it” and Line Wobbler certainly meets both benchmarks imo.

I haven’t been able to make it back to Mothra’s booze house because you need a hotel keycard to use the elevator so I have to piggyback on other people and hope they’re going somewhere close.

The hotel resort convention center itself, the Gaylord National Harbor.

The cardinal rule of Magfest. You see these signs everywhere. No one follows it.

One of the music setups was located in the bar next to the hotel’s lobby. It tended to play lighter fare, like the jazz of Super Soul Bros., the brass sounds of GameBrass, and the strings of the Triforce Quartet. The third picture is the bar from a different vantage point. The upper floor at the top right with the gazebo is where I took the first two pictures from and is one of the popular cosplay areas.

Downstairs by the fountain in the courtyard, another popular cosplay area. It’s a very nice looking hotel.

The LAN room. The first picture is of the front where there were lots of setups I assume were sponsored by a company called Computer Upgrade King. The second picture is the back of the room, which was the Bring Your Own Computer section. The LAN was much larger and way more populated than I expected. It was pretty dang full.

This hallway was filled with wizards. Magfest was trying to officially make the Guiness World Records for Most Wizards in a Single Place. A celebration was already scheduled to take place the rest of the day in that hallway with lots of big names holding performances celebrating them breaking the world record. I overheard some people saying Magfest attempted this last year but too many people got disqualified for not being actual wizards i.e. they did not have a pointy hat, a cape that reaches below your knees, and a wand-like object.

The hottest rhythm games in the arcade room.

SMASH ZONE (but the smash was too big to be contained just here)

The main concert hall during the Bit Brigade concert. They have someone speedrunning an old game while the band plays the BGMs live. In this case it was Mega Man 2 since the game’s composer Takashi Tateishi was in attendance. The next pictures are the crowd leaving. It’s very crowded.

Lots of people still love Command & Conquer music.

A sitting area at the side of the main concert hall, and the merch area called Rock Island.

There are several designated concert areas and many Jam Spaces where people can just come in and play music themselves, but people will also just pick a spot in a hallway and setup shop there.

POSE is the nightclub/lounge on the top floor of the resort and Magfest also holds performances there as well. This video is from Thursday night and it was fairly empty but people were still jamming to some hot dance mixes of 80s JPOP.
