Magfest 2019: Windjammed if you do, jammed if you don't

Hey all,

I’m going to Magfest with my usual group of friends this year - January 3rd-6th in Maryland - and we have two extra tickets we got through the group rate. Let me know if anyone’s interested! It’s a three-day 24/7 festival of arcade games, tabletop, live shows, indie games and tournaments.

We also have hotel rooms booked at the hotel, so we could talk about sharing one if those. I should mention that our group does drink a lot during the 'fest.

Beyond that, anyone else going this year? We should meet up at some point and blast each other with Windjammer power discs, as is custom.

Having attended this meetup with this group in the past, I can affirm that it’s a delightful time! I’d come myself, but our travel budget for 2019 is pretty tied up in a trip to Belize in January. Give my regards to the crew!

It’s four days actually! Starts on Thursday.

I usually go just to chill. I don’t actually do a whole lot because honestly I find the console game room boring and the JP arcade games have long lines. Don’t really know any music groups so I drop in an out randomly.

I’d be down for hanging out if there’s a meetup. I’m currently planning on going Friday evening but leave I drive back each day.

i keep forgetting to add this to the list of things i want to go to, oh well, next year i’ll have the money to do it

Really been wanting to do MAGFest again, but pretty much abandoned any plans in favor of saving for other 1st quarter travels. If I could fly there for significantly less than $250 though, I’d be very down.

Yeah, the cost of the flight is usually the real blocker for people.

Alrighty, let me know if anyone ends up going, or is interested in the discounted ticket I have.

What days are you gonna be there?

Currently I’m going to be there Friday evening and come back all day Saturday, but I’m going to see if I can get Friday off work so I can go Thursday evening and all day Friday too.

My plans changed and I’ll be heading there tomorrow afternoon. Anything of particular note going on this year?

LordBBH and Heidi Kemp are doing panels together on Friday and Sunday so I can catch one of those, and Frank Cifaldi has a SNK 40th Anniversary dev panel and some game history stuff on Friday I think. Takashi Tateishi has some Mega Man 2 panels on Friday and looks to be making an appearance during the Big Brigade performance on Thursday. Frank Klepacki is doing a Command and Conquer concert on Saturday. Those are the things I was told about or jumped out at me but I need to give the schedule a full look.

some of my former Babycastles comrades will be there doing Babycastles stuff! in collaboration with Death By Audio Arcade, probably?

Yeah that sounds right. I remember seeing them next to DBA last year, although the person at Babycastles I talked to then said they weren’t associated.

i mean, we used to/they do work together in tandem, sometimes. separate entities with separate goals, but

Oh and FYI Magfest streams the concerts and panels if there’s anyone in particular someone wants to watch.
