The Star Wars Experience only had 6 and 11 which were not very impressive 20 years latter and had fallen apart with time.
Now fast forward to “The Empire Strikes Back.” The Leia in this film displays all the markers of the frustrated postdoc thwarted in her pursuit of a tenure-track job. Oh, sure, she is still authoritative in her way. But Leia also sometimes seems to act as if she was expecting a nice tenure-track position at Coruscant State rather than spending her time in the hinterlands of Hoth (to be fair, civil wars are hell on the academic job market). And while she gets irked when Han calls her variations of “Princess,” she saves her real ire for the sentence “I am not a committee!” Only someone who has had to navigate the dark side of academic bureaucracy could say that sentence with that amount of conviction

also lucasfilm needs to put their money where their mouth is and retcon finn’s abysmal treatment in both tlj and tros and/or commit to making at LEAST one movie where he is the main character. i will accept poe as a co-star and rey can do a cameo.

I liked Finn’s treatment in TLJ
it works within the context of the film much better than his marginalization in tros but it doesn’t really do anything that exciting for the character re: where he is at the end of tfa imo

like a lot of things in TLJ Finn’s arc seems like rian johnson setting jj abrams up for a spike while knowing fully that he’d whiff it

i mean, rian johnson was set to write the last film before the director change.
oh shit i actually didn’t know that, for some reason i had it in my head that either it was always Abrams or that they were going to line someone else up for it
welp like many [of my] selectbutton posts, it was founded on nothing but sounded pithy so i just rolled with it
that old director is awful, but i feel like he was malleable that w a rian johnson script it could have come out well.
yeah maybe… god ROS is one of the most reactionary nerd films i can think of
still irritated that not only was Rose sidelined, it was in such a blatant way that she might as well have looked at the camera and yelled “I’M NOT REALLY GOING TO BE IN THIS ONE“

i hate to be one of those ‘release the [x] cut’ people but everything i’ve seen from the unfilmed treverrow version looks so much better. and i even kind of liked tros.

Thinking back the only parts of tros i really liked are the death star ruins and babu frik
Hard to really pin down the very worst part of 9 but it might be the otherwise totally useless character introduced solely to reassure everyone that Poe is totally het

And also make sure there’s no chance Poe ends up with Rey because you don’t want to piss off Reylos and racists, apparently.
And he can’t end up with Rose because nerds on the internet already convinced them to write her out of the movie.
Like everything else in Rise there are layers upon layers of bad choices.
