1986 in Japan.
throwing in open world marble madness in here just to be different

BZZZT RULE BROKEN GET OUT OF HERE
doing this, if you all have a problem with that then make your rules clearer.
read the op slamming the big red buzzer
breaking the rules is fine youre not actually in trouble, this is sb after all
like you can convince someone to play it and then it’ll be their pick
voting for Trinity. It’s just a perfect piece of science fantasy
Mighty Bomb Jack did release in 1986, just not in America. It counts!
From now on, I’m just going to assume everyone is playing these games before they post unless they tell me otherwise (looking at you, ellaguro). Ironically, I did play some Spindizzy last night, but I’m not sure I want to preserve it just yet. I need to spend more time with it. Instead, I have another Commodore game to talk about.
I want to remember Killed Until Dead.
Exhibit A: The boxart
Exhibit B: The character art
After wrestling with Commodore 64 emulators for more than an hour, I finally got to experience a case. I play as a detective who will solve a murder before it happens. To do this, I need to break into people’s rooms, interrogate them over the phone, and tape conversations from their meetings around the house. All the while, my notepad automatically fills up with cluesbysam-type logic statements: “If the victim is killed with a bomb, it won’t be in the patio.” “If the victim is killed by Paul, it won’t be with a knife.”
I really hope this game gets rereleased so that it doesn’t need to be emulated. It’s pretty annoying to wait for loadtimes on a virtual disk that doesn’t even have a MB of information. I can’t wait to play more! Maybe I’ll even solve a case today…
Waiting for @HOBO to rep that Solstice looking Batman
I don’t know if he has the heart to return to that…the speedrun people burned him so bad.
castlevania is a mario where you are slow and you fight spooky scary skeletons while jammin to some bangers, it’s pretty sick.
I didn’t play it this week ok fine you got me but I have played it within the last month. as a glacial being, that’s basically yesterday to me
APPROVED
I’m changing the rule to be a month since that’s keeping in spirit.
I nominate Hang On
Recently Add A Ball got a Hang On cab, a friend of mine has been doing minor repairs to it like getting the sound working, replacing the lights, and regreasing the throttle mechanism. Years of moped riding has prepared me to dominate at Hang On, and I typically top the high scores every time I go.
Unlike Super Hang On there is only one track, and it’s very hard to make it to the end. I feel like there’s a way to navigate the courses at top speed to give you enough time to make it, but I haven’t been able to get past the night city stage yet.
It is a bit of a different experience than Outrun. Hitting any other car will send you careening off the road and your bike will explode, and so doing inside passes feels very dangerous. Traffic doesn’t generally stick to lanes.
I played Dragon Quest for the first time in the past month. It’s really good for an rpg from 1986 in my limited opinion (good luck getting me to list any other games I’ve played from 1986 that aren’t a Yu Suzuki joint)
1985
Hang On is so cool. I actually prefer it to OutRun for the reasons you describe. I have a vague, childhood memory of playing the version you can sit on and rock side to side.
Recently, a vintage arcade popped it my home town. It houses some mechanical amusements from before the 80s, but also many machines to the current day. They had a handlebar version there where you simply stand by the cabinet and turn the handle. You still had to twist the throttle for speed. Unfortunately almost every cabinet in that arcade was busted in some way. I never got past the first checkpoint.
I’m shocked to learn that even the Master System version released in 1985. Same year release for an arcade game like that? I guess it happened more often back then.
Have you played Enduro Racer? It looks hectic.
I think far more important games have been brought up but I’ll add Salamander and Rebelstar to the pile.
I hate to tap the sign, but Rule 1 states you can only suggest one game per post! That’s not to say you can’t recommend both eventually. You just have to wait until someone else makes another recommendation.
I added this rule to encourage people to slow down and converse with one another about what they recommended. I’d really like to hear more about Rebelstar!
A friend of mine used to have an Enduro Racer cabinet. It’s really fun.
Owning arcade cabinet sounds so awesome but also like too much cake
He also used to have an OutRun and a Space Harrier. Now he just has Klax.
