I was trying to read old stuff but got tired of wading through all the racism and sexismā€“the things Iā€™ve reviewed so far were the few mostly-not-that-stuff exceptionsā€“so Iā€™ve given up, subscribed to Kindle Unlimited, and am just going to be reading a lot of modern trash. ; D Apologies to everyone in advance!

(In practice this seems to mean I generally have to stick to authors born before the end of WWI; Jack Trevor Story (b. 1917) is a convenient enough coincidence. ; D I have a mostly unresearched theory (well thereā€™s Radio news - The art of the written spoken word | University of Westminster, London and The Radio Revolution - by Rory Cellan-Jones ) that this is due to the mid-1920s advent of popular radio broadcasts: that prior to that, kids learning to write wanted to write like books, and after that they wanted to write like radio.)
