I’m sorry but you can’t just casually mention the hoi4 mod that is literally all about picking your favorite Nazi and doing alt history event chains with them and just describe it as “players creating their own lore” I think it’s probably worth mentioning if we’re talking about ideology, bias and whatnot that the new order is literally made by someone named “the pink panzer”
An inexplicably large part of the fanbase are “leftist” trans women who order albert speer shirts off redbubble. That may be proof that this hobby is fucking terrible for you.
paradox mods are suspect by their very nature but it does amuse me that you still managed to namedrop the most aggressively nazi one with minimal context
I played the demo for john tiller/wargame design studios civil war battles. i dont play many civil war games but i feel like they cant be that different from the napoleon type stuff i have played before…
they put me right into it with a meeting engagement near some town in virginia. a lot of it was repelling confederate charges. i held my fire until they were very close because i feel like with weapons like this its kind of a matter of nerve since you wanna get as close as possible to kill as many of the enemy as possible. my divisions never ran low on ammo which made it easy to hold out for a few hours. plus melee basically always seemed to my advantage so the few times they tried it it did more damage to them than me. the big worry ended up being flanking actions, i fucked up my plan to take out their artillery but my skirmishers did slow down some enemy reinforcements to the point they didnt make a difference in the battle. early on it became apparent the rebs were going to try to push right through the little town and i mostly kept them away from the vp except when a bunch of militia dudes ran past the VP to murder my artillery which had already done tons of damage.
oh yeah duh i forgot to add sid meier’s gettysburg to my Personal History of War Bullshit. civil war stuff is really cool, we did a semesterlong campaign analysis of the Overland campaign in grad school, i really want to get back into studying it
I’ve been thinking about what I want to say here but of course lock n load perpetuates the thing where khat is like some kind of stat boosting meth that the barbarians used to get an advantage over our troops lol. when I was a kid and my dad was really into the mark bowden book he would like go off about how the somalis had no fear … they were attacking hopped up on this death leaf and could shrug off bullets or whatever. you know, like how cops talk about black people. the thing is though that like obviously this is racist right. amphetamines did not win the battle of mogadishu for the somalis, they won because the us had dogshit tactics. remember when I was going off about human wave attacks being racist bullshit? yeah that’s kind of like this.
the guy the us was after, Mohammed Farah Aidid, trained at an infantry school in Rome and the Soviets selected him to go to Frunze Military Academy, which was like the elite institution for the best Warsaw Pact officers. The Delta/Ranger teams looking for him conducted tons of raids leading up to the Battle of Mogadishu, and they used the same helicopter insertion humvee extraction plan every single time (they also largely did them at night). all he had to do was let himself be sighted somewhere, knowing the US would come, then order his men to congregate in the surrounding area so they could setup roadblocks to prevent the convoys from escaping once the encirclement was complete. This is called good tactics. The assumption was that if they inflicted enough casualties on US forces it would force a swift withdrawal due to public opinion etc etc nobody wants to see a ton of are boys getting killed on a humanitarian aid mission.
All the angry mobs and shit weren’t Aidid’s fighters, they were regular Somalians angry at the US forces for the constant raids and collateral damage. Every time they tried to take Aidid out it made him more popular. His fighters unsuccessfully tried to get people to go home but they were too pissed off. So you end up with this warped perception that because there were a lot of people and Americans got their asses kicked it must be because we got overwhelmed by a violent frenzy of drug fueled savages, which is emphatically not true. they have to racistly downplay how Aidid’s plan was actually operational and tactically sound because the US pulled out of Somalia right after and, again, it’s embarrassing for the military. so like yes khat is an amphetamine but I feel like it’s overrepresented in retellings of those events bc racism and to cover for the american militarys inadequacies.
The image of Khat in American public seems like a typical American issue. Even Greg Newbold, when entering Somalia in first wave, most of the time he considered how to conduct nighttime raids, and from the briefings at the time. The US military was well aware that Khat would not trigger violent tendencies and a desire for combat, more focus on hung over after use Khat. Its post-event image is hard to say wasn’t the result of political hype to cover for inadequacies, achieving such an effect also requires the long-term propaganda of the War on Drugs since 70s.
Your story is necessary for Americans, as most Americans is in long-term immersion of a 3D brainwashing, combined with the inherited racism from their own families, adds up to a unique, labyrinthine paranoia. We can see all these soldiers share same version of the American vs. barbarian style story after war since 1700.
In tactical games the LnL situation is common, which is a typical racism result of adding national flavor. If we make a house rule, there’s no doubt that removing the +1 morale setting and only keeping the -1 MF would be more realistic. But considering the title of this module, one house rule may not be enough.
the wargame played this weekend: 'Nam '68 and Baby Boomer. We’re not finished all the scenarios of Nam but try every optional rule of Baby Boomer. Shame.
Prepare for this weekend of 'Nam’68. Last week the original one without rear side of counter, it looks like a half-made. Time for a pixel font skin mod.
