looked the author up and his other works are sayonara zetsubou sensei and a 24 volume sports manga about ice hockey, so I would wager he’s not actually a nationalist type
any manga artist who’s done sports manga feels way more likely to be a well-adjusted human than those who haven’t.
where does Keijo!!! fall in this chart
I wasn’t gonna mention it
I actually considered this and its not a real sport so it falls out of bounds
I’m three eps in, I really like Turn A.
Kind of a hitting a jump-the-shark moment here with the introduction of some kind of giantic mechanical metal man, though. A strange misstep for the show that hopefully they’ll write off soon.
If it is not a real sport it becomes rules manga/anime, a totally separate genre – one that is very popular and sometimes good!! But can also get bogged down by an obsession with rules.
It’s been a while but I feel there was some imagery in the SZS adaption that feels like it flies a little to close sometimes but it’s also a Shinbo show that loves nothing more than to overload you visually and be difficult to parse. Then again the show hardly pulls its punches when poking the ribs of certain areas of japanese culture but then there’s some bits where it doubles down on “this is the right way” messages but usually at the expense of a character that deserves mocking.
He also has comic/recent anime about an manga author raising a child and doing his best to hide his work from her because its trashy. I want to give the benefit of the doubt and say a sincere story about raising a child while creating unsavory art is a little outside the usual nationalist wheelhouse.
i can’t believe such a simple way of describing hunter x hunter has eluded me for so long
i’ve said this a couple times already but dorohedoro becoming this at the very end of season 1 sucked so bad
So this final season ended, okay well actually the second part of the final season aired its last episode with a cliffhanger and a “to be continued” as there is now gonna be a final season part 3 in 2023 and I think I’m just trapped. This season at best is gonna air across four different years and I’m preparing myself for this supposed single season to end up longer than the rest of the show combined.
Anyways the last ep planted the seeds for everything that’s going wrong being due to the female lead not reciprocating the now big bad’s romantic affections so that’s great.
I just clown colleged myself into ordering Magic Knight Rayearth collection and the first volume of Galaxy Express 999 TV. Did I do a dumb thing?
yes but it’s a really good looking version of it
no, of course not, unless you accidentally bought the old set where you have to print out PDFs of the translation instead of having subtitles
My mother has a multi-region blu-ray player so I guess if Rayearth is not my thing I can give it to her so she’s got something else to put on for the nieces instead of endless Moana and Encanto.
Did they just not understand how to add subtitles in Adobe Encore or whatever?
the uk magic knight rayearth blurays also come with the oav on a bonus dvd
and they’re rated 15 because the bbfc is racist against japan (unless it’s ghibli)
I considered the UK ones but they seemed a fair bit more expensive for me.
Are the OAVs worth watching?
i… haven’t got round to it yet. i’m terrible at watching stuff!
apparently they’re a little darker in tone than the tv show though, so that sounds more interesting than just a condensed re-telling.
i also haven’t watched the gekigengar iii dvd that came with the nadesico bluray set (which i think is that oav’s first ever uk release) D:
the ova is hilarious because its complete tonal whiplash from the light hearted fantasy comedy tv series, instead going for maudlin edgelordy late-90s anime
