this is always the answer. the best time to catch up to a manga you havent read, is always right now!!!

Apparently all this human stuff is from one single light novel, where all this happens and is presumably resolved at the end of the book. We’re now made to suffer through what are essentially the most generic fantasy tropes in anime - designated hero with a destiny, inexplicably-evil jelous former friend, girl who can transform into a dragon at will, uptight elf - all done completely without subversion. It’s incredible how much the quality plummets when these non-spiders show up.

I guess I hope this is the end of it and it wraps up next episode? I should just read the manga, fuck it.

jesus christ I did not expect Soul Eater to fuck me up I specifically wanted something gleefully stupid with Todd Haberkorn in it

I finished inuyasha with my nakama yesterday. like 100 episodes of it are stupid bullshit and rumiko takahashi hates women and the gays but i still really liked it. when the show has actual arcs it’s great, but it loses a ton of focus when they switch directors after season 2 and the art gets worse. i suspect this has to also do with the fact that rumiko takahashi didn’t know how to end inuyasha until 2008 and sort of just kept going. eventually it kind of just degenerates into chasing naraku back and forth across the same 300 feet of japan. but even then theres a bunch of great subplot episodes and the hilariously drawn out band of seven arc that ends in a homophobic hate crime somehow rocks. ill miss my obstinate dog bf inuyasha, his gay bully brother, and shippo! n friends…

are you gonna watch his daughter and nieces show now?

we want to maximize our inuyasha time so we’re gonna watch the 4th movie, then the final act (the original inuyasha show just kind of abruptly ends LOL), then yashahime. i might watch steins;gate in between the final act and yashahime though because i want to relive my trauma

miura axethread got eaten so gonna just berserkpost here

the emotional sledgehammer of the eclipse + surgery anxiety had me stepping away for a week or so but i spent a good bit of my recovery reading the conviction arc. really appreciating how miura literalizes the way trauma haunts people, that feeling that no matter where you go or what you do those (literal, in guts + casca’s case) demons will follow you and try to undermine everything you build. on the other hand, even more than golden age miura can’t seem to decide whether he’s depicting sexual violence to shock or arouse. farnese is a whole ass mess & i’m struggling to figure out why she’s here beyond miura needing another woman to strip at random, but i have the impression she has a pretty large role going forward so i’m looking forward to seeing where he goes with her. enjoyed the momentary focus on luca’s group surviving in hellworld and wish they got more time doing that instead of mostly being background characters and the completely inexplicable spanking scene. miura really pioneered being horny on main huh.

so far this was definitely the arc where i most frequently went “oh, that’s where [thing in a souls game] is from.” also suddenly aware of why a bunch of visual artists i like all draw weird black dogs the same way

onto the arc that i still can’t believe is actually called millennium falcon

I had similar reactions to the nudity and sexual violence in this chapter and was suspicious about Farnese. But, being a little bit ahead of you, I think I like what Miura has done with her and what she appears to be becoming. The conviction arc kicked ass though probably my favorite so far.

Godzilla: Singular Point has reached full Godzilla Movie status as I enter a stretch of four sequential episodes wherein random professionals are introduced at a dizzying rate to deliver absolute jibberish technobabble about how Rodan is comprised of crystalline nano-phase matter from the primordial soup while Baragon’s scales dimension-shift into a universe where 6 = 9 to perceive the future and deflect bullets.

Rest assured that none of this will matter nor be relevant as various kaiju arrive to slug it out, after which the movie will end with no further mention being made of the transphasic hyperspace Rodan crystals we spent so long establishing.

I watched the first episode of this yesterday and had a great old time. I’m excited to see where it goes. Perhaps the first Godzilla media where I could imagine myself possibly caring about the humans.

I think it’s different from the manga a la FMA but the Soul Eater anime ending is perfect. The ultimate antagonist isn’t the witches or some prophesized mythological entity. It’s anomie and nihilism - getting jokerfied. The things the Final Boss says could be blackpilled posting. The way through is standing shoulder to shoulder and calling bullshit.

Watched the episode of CCS where Tomoyo shows Sakura her en suite media screening room where she watches her camcorder recordings of Sakura on a projector and it’s played 100% ahem straight

Checked out Soul Eater NOT! and it does what it says on the tin - moefied husk of a show, reminds me why I totally lost interest in anime around then

colours in the first still are eye catching; seems unusual for the background to look warmer than the character
