My wife didn’t ask about oversexualization in anime one time
i’ve got some bad news for you about every other lupin iii show or movie
Finished Gun Gale Online earlier today, ended up liking it quite a bit. The 12-ep length lets it do its thing and wrap it up before things get stale, and the cast is kept pretty small.
Actually really liked the reveal at the end, which like, felt kind of sex-positive kinda? I like that there’s this sadist/masochist relationship and the characters don’t really care about that so much as the fact that they put themselves in actual danger. I dunno, that was unexpectedly heartwarming to me.
I’m probably missing some way this is gravely fucked-up, but like, I like that the problem was that she’s basically doing a way-too-complicated very-dangerous auto-erotic asphyxiation badly and the problem isn’t that she’s getting her rocks off on being a sadist. I also consider it a bullet dodged that M didn’t lose all that weight because his dom told him to, he just lost the weight obeying her orders because that’s how he gets his rocks off. Everyone’s getting their rocks off the way they want to! Until Pitohui tries to kill herself!
Anyways I’m glad these two were more or less the focus of the show.
I also appreciate how the main character and her friend basically are playing Oddjob and thus have an insane advantage over everyone else in the game, which they exploit to its maximum potential.
Ahhhhhhh… fuck.
I’d say a few of the episodes miyazaki directed when he did lupin stuff are a close match for the tone of his movie but yeah for the most part expect comically high levels of oversexualization.
Actually, I think you’d like the movies that takeshi koike directed, the first two anyway. Jigen’s Gravestone and Goemon’s Blood Spray. as a true doom actionhead, the action scenes in both are incredible (Goemon’s Blood Spray is… almost off-puttingly violent but god that animation is so good)
for reference, the two movies I named are stand alone sequels to the woman called fujiko mine, I just didn’t recommend fujiko mine because it is very in your face horny
i missed the jojoposting. if you don’t like jojo i won’t make fun of you or think any less of you because of it but i will wonder if you hate fun. not everything is for everyone tho. i got really into around part 4 and so much so that when i was done watching the anime i went back, read the manga, caught up to part 8 and have been a diehard jojohead since.
there’s something about the characters and events of part 4 that really sold me on the whole thing. i will also say the end of part 2 sold me and gave me one of my favorite villains in an anime ( araki send them back ) because jojo is ’ weird ’ and funny and kind of gross and i don’t think people should miss out on it if part 1 isn’t catching your attention!
there’s a part for everybody you just gotta find yours
for me it’s 4, 6, and 2 thought i’m finding myself thinking more ab part 5 recently too
the fandom is a dumpster fire which is to be expected from weeb shit but that doesn’t take away the fun memories i do have interacting with people because of it. the racist fb groups aside.
I honestly can’t imagine this A-Teamesque harmless Looney Tunes pulp spectacle spawning a franchise that has an entry that could be described as “almost off-puttingly violent” but I guess that’s what happens when you make an anime with one IP for 40 years
Well, the thing is, it started as a racy violent comic for adults.
Lupin III has a long varied history but it mostly skews for the older crowd. Any thing with a green coat is usually the lighter fair that Miyazaki worked on or is calling back to that. Red Coat is usually more true to the source comic. Sex, violence and money are usually the base of every arc. Pink Coat, which I haven’t seen first hand yet, is supposed to be some real loony toons level of antics. Blue Coat is the most modern and the first bit is Lupin having to come to terms with social media and the whole world is a cop.
The newest CG move The First is mostly ok if kinda just an Indiana Jones movie done with Lupin. About the worst it gets is Lupin insinuating he could take advantage of girl driving the plot. Oh yeah, he fights a Nazi David Lynch.
i finished r.o.d. the tv this morning and it was very good also i was stressed out the entire second half of the fucking show that was a lot
ending was good but idk i wanted the big bad to get his face punched one more time
I just watched eight episodes of Dynazenon interleaved with a rewatch of eight episodes of Gridman (which was done on a whim but has turned out to be very pertinent with all the episode mirroring going on). It goes without saying that I’m completely hooked, also I wanna buy the toy.
I was thrown off a bit by the dream episode not being 9 but this latest episode was great! I’m rather wondering what the endgame will be since SSSS Gridman was at a completely different spot at that point (unless Gauma collapsing from hunger is actually a lot closer a parallel to Yuta collapsing from being stabbed than it seems)
I got around to watching Char’s Counterattack. This movie is totally illegal right now so I ended up watching a Vimeo copy with no subtitles
I liked the one-off new character Quess a lot. Her presence gives the story a different flavor than just a vanilla Amuro vs Char rematch in higher budget. And her teenage recklessness is both relatable and hilariously over-the-top
you can get it on bluray!
My partner and I watched all the way through JoJo season 1 and 2, and we just started Stardust Crusaders. It is absolutely ridiculous how much the show improves from season to season! 1 was mostly dire, 2 was great, and 3 seems like it’s going to be absolutely fantastic.
imo…
7 > 4 > 2 > 5 > 1 > 3
(haven’t spent enough time with 6 or 8, I just really don’t love stardust crusaders)
I also think Phantom Blood Dio is underrated in his derangedness and I generally like old FotN aesthetic
stardust crusaders is like 75% great 25% “ok araki i can tell you had a lotta great stand of the week ideas but maaaaybe trimming this down a bit would’ve been good”
it’s true I’m very unforgiving of bad pacing
the characters are also very static compared to the other arcs though? like all of the later ensemble arcs are a lot more dynamic, and the best parts of stardust crusaders are usually just Joseph, Kakoyin and Polnareff freaking out.
I also really really like jojo in general and stardust is mostly, like, lazy riffing by comparison. It’s still a lot of fun but the rest is better.
