why the hell would I watch something good

ooh a sequel to gridman, did they remove the foot fetish stuff in the sequel?

yeah dw it’s not horny and wayyyyyy better than gridman, just like lowkey well-written mundane character drama that ends with 5 minutes of incredibly trashy kaiju shit played straight every episode

I liked gridman except for the foot fetish stuff and That One Episode that was an excuse to fetishize a bunch of teenage girls so this is incredibly promising to read

well don’t yell at me if it gets horny but it’s definitely worth it so far, i can’t believe there’s a trigger show written by someone who’s had friends irl

oh yeah, i’m also looking forward to this - new mitsuo iso (dennou coil director/writer/animator, also probably the greatest key animator of all time) next year

been watching moriarity the patriot which is basically sherlock holmes but everyone is pretty and stuff blows up a lot. there’s a lot of violence and murder. you’re kind of rooting for the main character and his rival at the same time. the second season got way more money than the first. i like watching slender anime men smoke cigarettes and try to solve mysteries. there’s a lot of conspiracies and tricks up everyone’s sleeve. there’s some cross dressing and they don’t treat the character gross because of it!

i’ve been having fun every sunday seeing what moriarity is gonna do to take over england and turn everything into anarchy while he’s at it. it starts out as a show about revenge but then you get to see like power of friendship stuff happen and it makes you feel all warm inside about everyone on either side. everyone is fighting to do what they think is right.

i also watched the night is short, walk on girl and it was pretty odd but cute. i wasn’t expecting a romance but honestly i’m not sure why. it reminded me that i never finished tatami galaxy but i think i had more fun with the movie instead. it was very straight to the point and i fully accepted all the nonsense happening without questioning.

been watching Haibane Renmei for the first time. it’s really good for work nights when i’m very tired and just want something kind of calm to watch.

sort of reminds me a little of NieR, in a somewhat indirect way

love haibane renmei. may have to rewatch it since it’s been so long. i would love it if there were more anime with that kind of tone. it’s just a comfortable watch all around.

watched a couple episodes of inuyasha last night with miffy and bachelor. inuyasha was always one of those shows i avoided watching as a moody idiot teen, because i thought it was just a bunch of lame girl shit and why isn’t cowboy bebop on yet. i realize that this is probably the most normie take, but it turns out that this show is pretty fun. i’ll more than likely hit up a sketchy streaming site to catch more of it, because fuck getting a netflix account.

also damn this is a pretty ending scene

Yes! I’ve been looking forward to it since they announced 3 years ago.

i truly do love the bizarre naturalistic tone of the show. it’s interesting that they mostly ignore what happens to the city after a fight if anything. i can’t tell if they are explicitly going by gridman rules or what because it seems to barely care about the idea of rules at all, it’s almost just elemental super robot stuff as frosting on a slice of life. only one character from the good guys or bad guys even really seems to care about the battles at all. i find it so fascinating.

I am enjoying Dynazenon for the bits where it is an amazing toy commercial. The way the Dyna components look so pristine and shiny during the stock animations is dopamine straight to my brain. The parts that aren’t a toy commercial are almost to slow a burn for me. Right now I’m chopping at the bit for some kind of major development but last week finally dropped a big hook at the end so now I’m hoping for things to start getting to their point. Gridman dropped enough bread crumbs per episode to keep me satisfied and hungry for more.

i remember watching it one episode a day at first, then finishing it off too quickly and feeling like i kind of ruined the vibe a bit. so yeah, definitely take your time and enjoy

NieA_7 is nice too; for a little while i was worried it’d be dull/crass in comparison but it ends up quite poignant and most of the characters feel very grounded and likeable

I started watching this while using my rowing machine, thanks to your rec. I like it! Main character is fun, her teammates are generally pretty enjoyable. I like M, and I like how he plays it stoic while also being a complete awkward weirdo.

I’d say the highlights so far are:

  • The way they do the red glowing damage lets them just have grisly massacres and they don’t have to make it all grimdark. Never get tired of that “she shot them all the way up their body, leading to a headshot” thing they’ve done four times.

  • The main character is not a shut-in hikkomori for once and just regards video games as a curiosity, which is cool. I like that she never has anything to prove at any point.
