I think the fun/comedy/camp of MGS relies on some magical mixture of non self awareness and excessive self awareness. The intrigue is not know which you are looking at.
Is It camp? Its not exaggerated enough for most of its run time but I think the plot itself is pure camp and it has campy moments. I think the moment where Scullface is screaming WHOOO!!! like a deranged old owl is pretty camp. So is the speech about the Diamond Dogs. So is the sahelanthropus any time it appears. Im sure we could conjure up some fun thoughts about camp’s exaggerated artifice and the artifice of Big Boss’s Venom Snake. A man performing an exaggerated role who isn’t in on the joke. Now, Let the legend come back to life! (hand flourish).
