HOW TO COOK PASTA
BY ME
ASSEMBLE INGREDIENTS
APPLY ENTROPY
i was stressing out about this for most of the day, to the point of putting it off for six hours and subsisting on cheerios. i got splashed by boiling water as a little kid and immediately decided the stuff was verbotten, and i still can’t avoid feeling anxious just being near it. i am not proud.
but everything came out surprisingly…normal? that hasn’t happened before. it is weirding me out a little.
maybe next time i will chop up some vegetables to throw on there! seems like it would be a waste not to
I got badly burnt all over my torso when I was a kid because I attempted to cook before I should have. It’s possible and worthwhile to get over fears like this (and, this may be bad advice, but it’s probably a good idea to become completely unafraid of getting a little burnt on occasion. I think it makes people better cooks if they get on with the business of cooking and don’t worry about the possibility of a burn. Still engage in safe procedures, but not panicking is a useful skill to have.)
I shocked a few of my friends last year when one of them accidentally spilled just-boiled tea on my hand and I had no reaction at all. Of course I’m some kind of horrible mutant that doesn’t even scar.
Yeah you’re going to get burnt, scalded or sliced once in awhile if you’re doing kitchen work. i’ve gotten a few gnarly injuries from food service work, lemme tell ya.
'Grats. You will find lightly frying some veggies to be pretty easy, then you can just toss it on top of the pasta. Maybe also throw some grated parmesan or asiago on top? Once you feel like you’ve mastered using canned sauce with additions, try making your own sauce from scratch – it’s surprisingly easy, and way tastier!
I scar from burns really easily and what’s worse is now that I’ve lived in Vancouver’s intensely humid (but not that hot) climate for a few years, all of my burn scars crack and peel immediately whenever I travel anywhere drier for more than a couple days
It’s great. Don’t try making tea in the dark.
got a 3rd-degree burn on my foot when i fucked up making mac and cheese when i was a kid
scar is gone now though :o
got a nice burn on my hand last year from deep-frying an avocado though!
oh my god, what does a deep fried avocado taste like
very, very rich
…but not bad
i miss cooking
I sort of want to try this. (I also, for whatever reason, find this particular article very amusing even if the jokes and writing are trying way too hard)
I skimmed it and found that only one sentence in every paragraph (sometimes less) was useful.
Sounds good tho. Soft shell crab poboys are so amazing.
chiming in this thread to say baked mac and cheese is better than stovetop no matter if its out of the box or homemade
learn how to make egg nog and thank yourself for having it year-round with rum
learn how amazing baking things is
You can basically make baked style in a crock pot too. Handy if you don’t want the oven heating up the place, or just don’t have a handy means of grating the volume of cheese required (the main reason i do it this way anymore), since crock pot style you can just cut the cheese into cubes. You do lose the joys of the top layer though.
crock pot lasagna is also delicious
Egg nog with whiskey or death.
Please educate me on the power of crock pots.
I had a broken oven growing up and every subsequent place I lived had some issue with the oven so I never learned to use one.
