I’m not familiar with frozen or wicked so she’s the nikki theme song lady as far as I know
hi I accidentally spent a bunch of time hoovering up whimstars and Itzadews and exploring and finishing the 2.0 story and I have to dump my thoughts before they wither away
okay it’s incredibly obvious that they took the feedback from the 1.0 main story and they made the initial leg of the Itzaland story flow a lot more smoothly both in terms of storytelling and gameplay. like, hey, much like the end of Wishfield, you need to press the miracle outfit button to win the quest, but in Itzaland, they correctly surmised that telling players to go farm for a week before you see the ending cutscene stupid sucks shit so they give you a trial version of it like a lot of recent seasonal story quests. also you would be farming the mats for a month because they’re tied to the combat Mira Crown and that shit is being timegated just to make sure people actually log in at least once a week. so good on that.
the story doesn’t seem like it abruptly ends and it feels like we’re not gonna be in a rotating “hey some weird shit is happening at (map coordinates)”/WE’RE HAVING A FESTIVAL PARTY samsara for a year. the story presented has a decent end point and they’ve actually set up for future MSQ updates so we probably won’t get shit again where they setup mysterious Linlang dye boy and then he gets black holed
the Itzaland world/level design seems a lot more confident and dense, almost to a fault; you’re constantly running into things to do or grab if you’re aimlessly running about and there’s not a lot of wide empty space and yes I understand that Wishfield having chunks of wide open fields makes the name make sense but it’s not interesting from a gameplay perspective. they’ve done a better job of threading that needle
Itzaland seems not-racist, so good job? but also that makes the tribal headdress in the store stand out that much more for being incredibly tone deaf

I only saw Nikki t-pose 3 times so I guess they got their QA pipeline ironed out
the compromise of just adding new labels to clothes instead of trying to do some more obnoxious powercreep nonsense feels reasonable; old clothes can still brute force faction stuff but I have my doubts on styling Mira Crown (which, fair but also you only care about that if you need the income)
I’m vaguely convinced that if you took 2.0 and carved it out and mucked with it to make it a packaged product, it’d probably be one of the better 3D platformers of the year. this may be the alcohol talking.
