Nier has some excellent towns that I love hanging out in but Facade holds a special place for me just for how much effort is put into designing it around the town’s rules and culture. Excellent OST too. I could live there.

no, there is a well that you knock a rock into and then a dead guy pops out and gives you a flask shard

the huge conspicuous hole seemed like a funny cool gesture when i first stepped into majula, BUT i anticipated an interconnected world, and i thought that the hole would be a shortcut/sequence break

Santa Destroy is hard to beat. Despite being sunny and bright it’s completely dead and empty feeling. Completely mundane city. I like the version that exists in 3 but 1 is hard to match.

I know we talked this to death years ago, but I still love Santa Destroy just for what it is and not as some sort of critique of GTA or whatever we were investing it with. Just a big space to occasionally stumble across T-shirts in.

Yeah it has its own podunk quality that I think works independent of GTA. Like I can see that interpretation but it isn’t why I remember it fondly.

Of GTAs towns I think only the first island of Liberty City in 3 stands out, but more for its level design than a sense of place

the name is perfect too

Maybe a safe/boring opinion, but I really like most of the towns in Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom. Lots of domestic and natural spaces to poke around.

Nowhere near as dynamic as those Zelda games, but I thought the towns in Harvestella were really lovely to look at. I also liked that I could just bump into my party members going for strolls, shopping, enjoying views, etc.

The big city in Landstalker is so good they built a giant replica of it for TGS when they made the cancelled PSP remake.
