I downloaded all these cars, now I want to take them on the road. (Handheld Consoles for Emulation)

That’s ironic right. Like go take it to annelectronics store and throw it away is the safe play?

is it actually sweat from your hands? or does it happen even when you don’t hold it?

for some reason i seem to sweat really badly when holding controllers after washing my hands (??)

Could it be, somehow, from the display (screen)?

Or maybe capacitors or something are oozing. Either way, I’d probably wash my hands and maybe hold off playing it until you know why it’s oozing.

Open that sucker up and take a look!

Left it Running for 20 minutes

Played it for 5 Minutes

Leaning towards Finger Oil. I’ve opened it up and checked a few times.

Edit: i haven’t checked in the last day because I haven’t had time.

Huh.

I don’t hate the look of that

disappointed by there only being 4 face buttons, but it does look like a comfy little guy

Amberelec (previously 351elec) was just updated with supposedly a boost to Saturn performance among many other things. Haven’t messed with it but if it is faster on the rg351v that’s good enough for me.

Since my New 2DS XL is fucked, I figured I’d try my RG350 again, but it’s not taking a charge. It’ll turn on when plugged in, but doesn’t actually seem to be charging. Since I don’t have my assortment of wall adapters here, I tried hooking it up to my laptop to see if it’d charge that way, and while the rear of the device gets warm, it likewise doesn’t seem to be holding any sort of charge. Can anybody verify if the RG350 is actually capable of charging via a PC? I can’t find any sort of verification. All I know for certain is, if plugged in to the wall, it needs to be a 5v/1a adapter. Since this thing is filled with cheap components and whatever ancient-ass shit they had a surplus of lying around, it’s hard to ascertain if the charging issue is because it literally just will not take a charge from anything other than the 5v/1a adapter (which I don’t have) or if it’s truly an issue with the shitty battery this thing came with (I’m still using the one that appears to have been, at least superficially, damaged).

I don’t have the money to be dicking around with troubleshooting this thing. If it’s the battery itself that’s fucked, then I’m just giving up on this thing because sourcing a battery that’s the correct dimensions or roughly the same (~5.2mm/50mm/75mm), the right voltage, and with the correct number of pins that isn’t going to take 2 months to show up is unlikely. Amazon has a few possible candidates, but it seems like the polarity is apparently reversed on most of these and I’m not equipped to deal with that in the event I’m not able to do what needs to be done by hand.

Possible candidates (but with possible reverse polarity issue):

(ETA: Also, yes, the cable is plugged into USB2, not USB1).

(ETA 2: I don’t believe it’s taking a charge because there’s no indicator anywhere of actual battery level and it refuses to turn on unless it’s plugged into the wall).

So, it was the damaged LiPo that Anbernic’s either irresponsible or just nonexistent QC allowed to slip through. I contacted them and asked them about getting a replacement LiPo and also asked how they could be so negligent to allow something like that to happen considering the dangers involved with LiPos and that they could’ve been held liable had anything happened to me, the carrier, etc., and all they did was ask for my order number and then ignored me when I told them I bought it from a third-party vendor, as if that somehow absolves them of their responsibilities. If one buys a product from Walmart, and it catches fire, it’s not Walmart’s fault it was faulty and caught fire, it was the manufacturer’s fault.

So, I highly recommend against Anbernic products. You’re risking not only your own safety but also the safety of anybody between you and the seller (the carriers). Catching a damaged LiPo isn’t difficult – mine had obvious signs of physical damage – if they can’t even be bothered to do that and are wholly unconcerned with the safety of anybody that has to handle their products, then I don’t see a reason why a company like that should receive anybody’s support. Like, fuck them.

Am I stupid enough to buy another one of these? This one is on this year’s chipset so Dreamcast/N64 has moved from “if you don’t give a shit” to “passable.” PS2/Gamecube is at “if you could play at postage stamp resolution.”

Looks like the money ran out for Taki’s endorsement.

Then there are like 5 things kind of doing the same thing as the Steam Deck: Odin, Aya, the just announced Razor thing

The RG351V is now pretty cheap and still an excellent buy for anything PS1 and below.

I bought an RG351V.

The face buttons are too small and close together. I guess I’d have that problem with all of these handhelds.
It’s easy to accidentally hit multiple buttons.

Seems like a good portable for Truxton and MUSHA, which is all I want really.

Mostly going to use it for SNES and Genesis, so this seems pretty good.

Does anybody have any experience with the AYN Odin Base/Pro/Lite and the Steam Deck? Those seem to be the big two best emulation machines in terms of quality and power. I’m leaning more towards one of the Odins because it’s probably going to be a lot more comfortable to hold and play shit on, but the Steam Deck has the added appeal of being able to play stuff like Monster Rancher DX, though there’s compatibility to worry about. clod

There’s actually a public spreadsheet with people’s impressions playing PS2, etc on the Base/Pro Odin: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1zATLq_UshE1Nw6HhHuJvrv6f6xFyK8nHrUdDd6bO7KM/htmlview#

Seems like it depends a lot on the game, though many run fine with tweaks.

If you’re worried about Steam Deck compatibility with PC games, there I protondb you can check: https://www.protondb.com/app/1716120

there’s like, a single digit amount of pc games i haven’t been able to get running on a steamdeck, and any emulation issues i’ve ran into are things which are known to be a bit tough to get running on most devices.
if portability is your main goal, don’t go for the steamdeck, you can probably find something else. if you have any interest in playing pc games handheld on the couch, then definitely get a deck imo.

and yeah, definitely check protondb rather than what steam says is compatible. most things i’m playing have an unsupported sticker, but run perfectly.

I only recently figured out emulation on my Steam Deck and I am now playing God Hand from the comfort of a friends couch. This is the future I dreamed of.

Steam Deck: 500 bucks
Playing the Best Game Where Ever I go: Priceless

I haven’t dug to deep into other emulation yet but if I can have this much fun I don’t see to many other problems as I go further back. I don’t think I’m ready to dig into PS3/360 era emulation yet on an OS I’m still trying to get my footing in.

Right now I think the steam deck is still a good value proposition if you want a PC couch/bed/travel option as well as being emu capable. It’s certainly not the pocket device choice but is there anything in that build factor that would be PS2 era capable?

About six months out from that. The Retroid Pocket 3+ can do PS2 if you don’t give a shit.
