How big do you game?

In my head, this big

For the last several years I’ve been playing the trails games. It takes me months.
But I’m doing a challenge this month where I try to beat a very small game every day or two. It’s been messing with my head a bit, but feels very relevant to this idea. Going from bloated games to narrow games really shows what can be done with both and what can’t. It’s actually really fun for the comparison.

Like today I played Love. Wild stuff. I suck at it. But had a blast. Yesterday was Genital Jousting. Tomorrow, who knows.

Love fortunately is very forgiving of terrible play, most of the dev’s games thankfully are.

made for [terrible] gamers like me.

I don’t play F2P or online multiplayer anymore and had my fill of retro emulation in the 00s so I mostly play new releases. Game length doesn’t really matter, though for my budget I like to have one 40+ hour game going between every 3-4 short games.

I play for about 2-3 hours per day. I probably won’t stop until I physically can’t anymore. Playing games is one of my favorite wastes of time

I got 70 cheevo points in ffxiv yesterday

I play like 20 minutes of random phone games all the time, every now and then one grabs me for a few hours and then the spell breaks. I rarely get far into them although I know I’ll play through Monument Valley III when it comes out. That’ll probably be 3 hours tops?

I put about 100 hours into Tears of the Kingdom this year, and the last game I spent that much time in was Yakuza 7 a year or two prior. I generally consider anything longer than 30 hours a major commitment and now as a parent of a young, needy child, 30 seems like a tall order. I hardly know how I managed to squeeze in playing Adaca. That was only about 9 hours. But that’s maybe my sweet spot these days.

I think having a child changed the way I played games but not really the games I play. For a myriad reasons it wouldn’t feel right to me to play videogames when he’s around (aside from bonding experiences that are centered around him) so I don’t. This means I spend most of my time playing in the evening (mostly between 11 PM and 1AM) when the day’s over, so the Videogame Experience is kept relatively pure

But I’m obviously lucky to have a kid who sleeps well + to be able to sacrifice some of my own sleep at the altar of videogames

I am about the same as Tuxedo obviously. Just look at GYPT. I play from 8:30 to 10:30pm just about every day. My kid still doesn’t know what Video Games are, amazingly. They’ve played a little of mini consoles when we are on vacation but I do want to encourage they use their imagination.

With Plus it has been easy to drop big games. The limited time structure means I have to make the concious decision to Play More or Move On. I try to pay attention throughout the day if I am excited to Play More.

Somehow I seem to one of the most Play Video Games people on this forum despite my responsibilites.
