Honk if You Love Spending All Your Money on a BRAND NEW CAR

I got lucky and had a friend that was an insurance agent for his job so it was a painless visit and something I get a bill for every year. Before that my dad had set things up for me and my siblings when we went off to University.

car insurance in BC is socialized, though I don’t think this is the case in other provinces

Stop advertising the Canadian wonderland you smarmy ass

I mean I feel like some of you can’t possibly know this shit so I like to state true facts now and then when they come up

I’m loling at the idea of two dueling adjusters within the same organization. Is the claims process just like an administrative hearing?

it is exactly like that

I mean, I did encounter a smarmy used car salesman when I mistook his lot for the dealership adjacent (easy mistake when both are selling Toyotas!) when bringing in my car for an appointment.

… because the houses they might be able to afford are far, far away from where they are working, or can buy essential goods for living. And that’s before the IT crowd realizes that suburbs can be nice, too.
And then you have the great equalizer called traffic jam, and La La Land kicks in are we’re all good for a few hours.
~fin~

I’m really digging that interior except for all the buttons on the steering wheel. That’s a little excessive.

the fun thing is, I got so used to it that it is kinda interesting that people think so.

maybe it is because the buttons always remain in the same place:
watch around second 20+ when that lady turns the steeeing wheel, and you’ll see what i mean

it’s weird at first, yes, but after a short while you get so used to it that it feels odd when they aren’t on a normal steering wheel, since you have to search for them when turning.
crazy frenchmen…

Wow, I didn’t realize they were fixed in place. That’s pretty awesome actually. I always wanted a DS3. Too bad we don’t have them in the states.

found a better one where you can see how they’re doing it:

sec. 30++.

Actually agree, re DS3!
I have been tempted by the racing version, but the orange is pretty… intense,

to say the least, but those rims

being OEM parts is seriously cool…

n. b. @Mothra, did you test drive some more rides by now?

I’ve only ever bought vehicles from people I know. I have an aversion to the idea of actually shopping for one.

If things had not worked out a little differently in the past couple years, I would probably still be driving my 1997 Corolla in 2017.

I gave that Corolla to a friend with whom I have a long history of trading such favors, and it got wrecked shortly thereafter (not his fault). He insisted on splitting the insurance money with me, and my half was more than I would have likely sold it for had I sold it.

Not long after that, I lost my new (to me) car in a flood, right after getting all new tires on it. Now I have by far the newest vehicle I have ever owned, but unfortunately I also have vehicle-related debt for the first time in ages.

I can’t complain, though. I ended up with a truck that a family member was selling that has proven extremely useful and that should last me until gas vehicles become obsolete.

I love hot hatchbacks and rally cars. I had an Evo IX for a while which I have always regretted selling. The car I sold has also appreciated considerably over the past year which makes it sting even more. The 4C is a fantastic driving experience and attracts a lot of attention but the C300 is extremely boring. My wife wants the Alfa Romeo Stelvio but I’m trying to convince her a VW GTI or a Fiat Abarth would be a better choice. I don’t think this is a battle I’m going to win.

Bought the Prius. 2016. 22k. Using Ameriprise as the insurance company so we’ll see how that goes.

I just bought a gently used 2018 Subaru Impreza for 18k! First car purchase I’ve ever made. I used Carvana because fuck going to a dealership right now. The process was bizarrely easy. Like, you pay a bit more cuz you can’t haggle, but they do everything for you – extremely thorough documentation and photos of the vehicle, tax tag and title done, shipping to your door, the works.

Of course, I haven’t received the car yet, so we’ll see how the process actually goes. But I’m excited!

What place did you use for this? I know someone looking for a car and this sounds perfect.

I used Carvana. They have a pretty decent faceted search system, but they do have some poor metadata issues, like certain tags (I think ā€œhatchbackā€ was one) will just break your search because they didn’t apply them consistently to the right cars. But you can limit things pretty well and turn up a reasonable list of cars they’re willing to ship to you, and they provide pretty much all the info you’d ever need.

absolutely hate that this is an app now as I have fond memories of both craigslisting piece of shit cars and haggling with dealers

My brother bought his car from one of Carvana’s giant vertical car vending machines. They give you a big coin to ceremonially put into it.
