I’m still slowly plugging away at Silent Hill 2 and, lost in all the praise about the atmosphere and presentation is how actually bad literally every game part is. I just finished up the hospital and I’m very torn on my experience so far because of this.

Another game for the season I just remembered:

I think it’s especially Halloween appropriate. The protagonist is a kid in footsie pajamas fighting monsters with a slingshot to save pets but all splattered with cartoonish blood and gore. It hits that right note of kid friendly sort of horror I think.

So did sweatpants zombie get buried dressed like that or was he out for a jog when he got bitten or whatever?

Majora’s Mask is pretty Halloween-ish. It’s basically trick-or-treating; it’s all about wearing disguises and going around peoples’ homes and getting a bunch of stuff.

If my dusty old N64 works I think I’ll replay it.

So I went “hey, I should start a spooky season/Halloween thread to see if anyone is playing any seasonally appropriate games for it”, then I went “I should probably check if there is a regular thread used for this rather than just start a new one”.

Turns out I did this almost exactly a decade ago, and was also playing a Silent Hill game for it. Time might actually be a flat circle >_>

Anyways a bit over 4 hours into Silent Hill f and I’m digging it so far. As noted previously it is a looker of a game, and the lack of guns means that my great worry of running out of ammo is not in play this go around (replaced by weapon degradation which is spurring me to run away as much as possible). Playing a Silent Hill with even this much of a combat system is an odd feeling (timing hitting heavy attack for right before an enemy attacks to land a big counter attack might be a half step too far) but generally I’ve been digging what it’s been putting down. I was also gonna say how great it is to play a Silent Hill that isn’t using the same set of locales but right before I quit for the day someone suggested we head for the school…

So yeah, anyone else have any spooky season gaming plans?
