You can also get it on xbox for $6 normally. It One X Enhanced so it runs at 4K and I think the bump mapping works fine.

oh cool!

Yeah the bump mapping is an issue with modern graphics cards running the old graphics code I guess. So emulation on Xbone is probably ideal. I haven’t looked into tweaks/mods yet.

I assume most here have played it but…Momodara IV is $3.99 on Steam and GoG. Or you can play it as part of Xbox Game Pass which is $1 right now for 3 months of Ultimate, which gives you access to both the console and PC game librariies.

How is that game? I’ve never played any of them but they look kinda cool.

it’s good but quite straightforward. most of the interesting parts are in the encounter design rather than the world

this is a lot of fun btw, I meant to try to make it happen at sbcon

I think IV is sleeper one of the best metroidvanias. Really, I’d say its more like a classic Castlevania, rather than a metroid.

Its a bit more action focused and the controls are tight and feel right. And the encounters are designed to flex you a bit. Which feels good, because you aren’t fighting the controls. There aren’t any quirky control choices made here, just to be different or whatever.

Animation and visuals are really nice.

And it doesn’t overstay its welcome and/or go off the deep end on backtracking. Its on the shorter side, but right.

If you are looking for a sprawling game to expore, Momodara IV is not it.

IV is a pretty big leap ahead of the previous games. Which I haven’t played. But I watched some videos and they seem to be much more Cave Story-like. And also kinda wear the learned lessons of the developer on its sleeve. Whereas IV just feels like a nice game.

You sold me on Momodora IV.

If anyone else is too damn lazy to figure out what IV actually gets named as, here’s the Steam page.

I picked it up too. Still in the first level but it is very charming so far! The dodge roll feels good too.

Come to think of it, it actually feels A LOT like Dead Cells, except with actual level design.

Momodora IV unfortunately falls off a bit at the end as certain items you likely get make the last few boss battles absolute pushovers (it also has a pretty silly trigger for the true ending), but it is at least $4 worth of fun.

Heads up that the free Epic game for tomorrow is almost certainly to be Superhot (I assume the non-VR version).

Betrayer is $0.75 on gamersgate. It’s got a lot of style and not a lot of length. I enjoyed it quite a bit!
