games you played today: winning eleven

oh, there’s a new thread what been played

we must soil it with phone game

Snoebraek:

whoops, the CCP caught wind of the game’s horny again, better cover things up and then include a way to disable it with a text file

Genshit: uh, they introduced a cool jaguar lady this patch who has rollerblades, DJs and sambas. also she’s the best enemy debuffer in the game and she heals, which means she can be paired with the best damage buffer in the game. normal phone game things

anyway, next patch they’re putting in a lady with elf ears (but she’s not an elf?) with a cowboy hat and her gimmick is she summons a flying gun and rides it around

again, normal phone game things

Zeds: okay ostensibly this is a party-based character action game, which really boils down to having a game plan and skill rotation to mine maximum damage as fast as possible within stun windows

if you’re running a normal DPS-stunner-support team comp

a lot of the last two patches have revolved around anomaly characters. which are kind of like DoT archetypes? they apply a bunch of their element to an enemy and when a gauge fills up, a status effect gets applied and either debuffs the enemy or gives them a DoT and then you can apply another anomaly and proc a disorder which is like if you could detonate the DoT? and you can just go back and forth doing this and completely bypass the whole “stunning” thing for massive damage on built characters

it’s a weird way to play and also it’s currently how (jesus christ I’m really going to type this) the meta is, insomuch as the “meta” of these games are “whatever the company is pushing to get you to spend for”

but also it’s hilarious to watch tiny Piper spin with her giant axe and make enemies explode because her good friend Burnice (yes they actually did this bad of a pun name, yes she uses flamethrowers) lit them on fire

also I guess they added off-brand Bloody Palace with a 100-floor tower and the gimmick is after floor 25, the game super buffs enemies and stops giving you the visual indicators of enemies attacking so you have to actually know their attack patterns instead of running rotations with your brain off and it’s good

oh, they added a lady for people who like legs. I’m not here to judge mostly because she also has a nice butt

Cold really fucking sucks. And yeah, they were Weezer’s pet numetal band.

Mostly remember Cold from working at a college radio station and Cold’s cover of Space Oddity was sent to the station as an actual CD that was not stamped as promotional material the way that everything else was. It was castoff by the label I suppose.

I’ve just been puttering around in No Man’s Sky.

I’m kinda surprised by how big it is.

Even this many hours on.

Feels big in a way Elite: Dangerous couldn’t quite capture for me.

rachet and clank rift apart is an interesting thing to look at

as a game, it’s… fine. movement feels very good and the visuals are bonkers (fluid and busy and reactive). the pacing is lightning quick and the cutscenes are skippable. still, it’s more spectacular than anything else. there’s not much to grab onto here.

in one sense, it’s like getting this peek at what a PS2 game with PS5 graphics would be like - it’s not particularly modern because the R&C formula isn’t objectionable to modern standards to begin with, and none of the mainline games have deviated far from the template. it doesn’t have aggressive monetization or much else to remind you that this game was made in the 2020s instead of the 2000s. other than the graphics, of course.

the writing and cutscenes… wow. i don’t know what it is about this style, but i find it intolerable. it’s never funny - always cloying. after taste-testing i started skipping nearly cutscene because they are just… boring. the fur is nice, at least.

still, interesting. and pretty. and there’s the anthro appeal of course, if you’re into that. thematically appropriate that it feels like looking into an alternate timeline (at an above-average-but-definitively-not-“great” videogame in a milieu in which overt publisher greed is marginally curtailed)

I first tried a Ratchet and Clank game because I was looking for something similar to Beyond Good and Evil, in the sense of exploring creative alien environments.

While I ended up liking the series and playing most of them, I’m with you and have always found the characters and cutscenes repulsive. Whenever anyone talks I ask myself why I’m playing the game, but then I get to an action part and remember why.

Played some Webfishing last night for a few hours. Honestly it’s very chill I quite like it. I’ve kinda missed community in video games and this game has that in spades just spent those few hours chatting with strangers and fishing and it was really nice.

I bought that but I haven’t touched it yet, I gotta give it a shot soon. I love fishing games…

Natsu-Mon is the latest Boku no game, in 3D with Zelda BOTW climbing. It’s translated and incredible, and has unfortunately made 0 waves

The game is about the life of a 10 year old kid during his summer vacation in August in a rural town he hasn’t visited before. Everything is optional and he can just wait in his room doing nothing everyday until the end of the game

I’ve been playing with my 4 year old son, on Saturdays and Sundays, at the beginning of the afternoon for about 1 and a half hour. Going wherever he tells me to, with some steering to guide him towards points of interest. We communicate a lot and he learns a lot. No joke it’s the best part of both of our lives right now. I honestly urge any parent on Select Button with a ~3 to 10 year old kid to do the same

I have a tendency to go at the game with a completist mindset which my kid reins in a bit, wonderfully. We could hand fish over to the host of the guesthouse so she could cook a meal for us which would yield a few in game rewards - but my kid gets too attached to the fish, so we just ignore that part of the game and it’s not a problem. We also ignore the four minutes long daily morning routine. It’s fine

BOTW climbing works so well for this kind of game I feel like this has to be the best Boku game… Climbing in BOTW was always a great mechanic but like, I was never that interested in the reward. I could climb anywhere but would only ever reach a destination, as Link, in a Zelda game, so it couldn’t be that interesting. You know. Whereas here I can climb on rooftops as a 10 year old, or explore a junkyard as a 10 year old kid. It feels incredible.

Anytime you catch a new bug or new fish or anytime a little event happens the boy draws it in his sketchbook. There has to be about 400 different drawings… Each new picture is a delight even if it’s the 36th kind of butterfly you’ve seen

When I said this I didn’t mean “Let’s put a bunch of paint cans in the level so you can mix the pretty multi-polygonal colours together” like the 2024 game is doing right now.

It was a Humble Monthly title (I think?) a while back, so some shady key sites out there have it for under $10 for a Steam key. Not a fix for your problem but, y’know.

(I’ve used Eneba plenty of times without issue)

Maybe they’d swap it for another used copy? I dunno. Haven’t really dealt with Gamestop in a while.
